ARSENAL PONDER SHOCK MOVE FOR WOODGATE

Arsenal are weighing up a shock move to sign Tottenham defender Jonathan Woodgate.

The Spurs man came through a practice game in midweek against QPR having not played since November 2009 due to a career-threatening groin problem.

Gunners manager Arsene Wenger is looking to strengthen his backline in this month's transfer window due to injuries to regular stoppers Thomas Vermaelen and Sebastien Squillaci.

And it is understood the Frenchman wants to raid Arsenal's north London rivals for Woodgate to plug the gap in his side's central defence.

Former England stopper Woodgate arrived at White Hart Lane from Middlesbrough in 2008, but has seen his Spurs career hampered by injury.

Previously, Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has indicated he would allow Woodgate to leave on loan to interested clubs QPR or Leeds, provided he can achieve basic fitness.
