BLACKBURN WILL POACH SPURS’ £20M STRIKER TARGET

Sevilla striker Luis Fabiano has been approached by Blackburn in an audacious attempt by the Lancashire club to steal him from under Spur’s nose.

The 30 year old has been relentlessly linked with Tottenham, catalysed by the incessant praise showered upon him by Harry Redknapp. With the strong Brazilian performing well in La Liga with 8 goals in 16 appearances it looks like another summer of intense speculation.

Reports circulating in Spain suggest that Blackburn has entered the fray which seems to have turned into a two horse race. Sevilla moved to end rumours over their striker’s future last year when he signed a two year deal keeping him at the club until 2013. The issue they have concerns European competition: with Sevilla sitting in 7th and well behind the clubs in the Champions League spots he could be tempted to move.

With Blackburn similarly bereft of European football and virtual no-hopers for Champions League qualification this deal will probably go the same way as the attempted Ronaldinho coup. The approach is most likely true but if it is granted any attention by Sevilla or Fabiano it would be surprising.

Whether it is sound business to offer the type of contract Blackburn would need to even tempt Fabiano is another concern. If Sevilla fail to qualify for Europe surely his first choice would be the more technically adept Spurs who should at least find themselves in the Europa League. With Blackburn’s Indian owners desperate to make a glamour signing they will be hoping they can conjure up a deal he won’t be able to refuse.
