Capello drops Lampard for Wales Clash

England manager Fabio Capello is set to drop veteran midfield player Frank Lampard from his starting XI for Saturday’s crucial Euro 2012 qualifier with Wales at the Millennium stadium.
It had widely been assumed that the Chelsea player would start in a midfield four alongside Arsenal prodigy Jack Wilshere in the continued absence of Liverpool’s Steven Gerrard with a groin injury, however, according to reports the Italian was unimpressed with the pair’s partnership when they teamed up in the centre of the park for England’s previous fixture, a friendly against Denmark in Copenhagen which they won 2-1.
And now, as a result, England will go into a competitive fixture without one of either Lampard or Gerrard in the team for the first time since they were eliminated from the 2002 World Cup finals by eventual winners Brazil in South Korea/Japan.
The rest of the midfield four is expected to comprise Aston Villa’s Gareth Barry in the holding role, with James Milner of Manchester City and Aston Villa’s Ashley Young patrolling the flanks.
