Keeper scores his 100th goal

ROGERIO CENI is officially the goalkeeper of the century — after blasting his 100th goal for Sao Paulo in Brazil. The shot stopper turned goal poacher stunned rivals Corinthians by clipping a 54th-minute free-kick over a defensive wall and into the top corner of opposite number Julio Cesar's net."It was beautiful," said Ceni. "As a goalkeeper you don't enter the match thinking about scoring a goal, but it happened just as I wanted: with a free kick, deciding an important match."For me, it doesn't matter that it was against Corinthians, but for the fans it must have been important."Ceni is recognised by FIFA as being the most successful hitman to wear the No 1 shirt.Their records will show that his weekend strike in Sao Paulo's 2-1 win in the state championship is his 98th in first-class football. But Ceni counts two more goals nabbed in unnofficial friendlies, one against a combined Santos and Flamengo team in 1998 and another against Russian club Uralan Elista in an exhibition tournament in 2000.The 38-year-old was the third choice keeper for Brazil when they lifted the 2002 World Cup.Sadly the only thing he picked up yesterday was a yellow card for yanking off his shirt to celebrate the wonder goal.Watch video highlight below
