Brad Friedel to sign new Aston Villa contract

The Aston Villa keeper Brad Friedel is coming to the end of his contract at Villa Park, and there have been various rumours saying that he is being courted by the Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp as a possible replacement for Heurelho Gomes.
Friedel’s old club Liverpool have also been showing an interest as they want an able back-up for Pepe Reina, but the American stopper has revealed that he is still hoping to come to an agreement with Gerard Houllier to stay at Villa Park next season.
Talksport asked him directly if he thought he would still be playing for Villa next season, and he replied: “I hope so. The contract talks at this moment have been put on hold because of Mr Houllier’s health and also the ongoing court case with Martin O’Neill.
“Myself and my advisors wanted to get to safety first and foremost before we started diving into things of that nature.
“We’ll get this game out of the way and then we’ll sit down on Monday and we’ll hope to come to a conclusion.
“I still feel very good, I still think I’ve got a year or two left in the legs and we’ll see what happens. I’ve enjoyed every minute of my three years here so we’ll just have to see what the future brings.”
If he re-signs for Villa it will save Houllier another headache of having to search around for a new keeper this summer.
