Nottingham Forest sack Billy Davies

NOTTINGHAM Forest have sacked manager Billy Davies. The club made the decision to axe the Scotsman this weekend and will finalise the appointment of his replacement in the next 48 hours with former England boss Steve McClaren in talks over the job.Chairman Nigel Doughty decided to take action after seeing their relationship with Davies grow increasingly fractious. The club held two showdown meetings with Davies over the last few weeks, in an attempt to reach an agreement over how they would build a third consecutive push for promotion. But they will now turn to a new man, after deciding that they could no longer work with the former Derby and Preston manager.Davies saved Forest from relegation after being appointed in January 2009 and subsequently steered them to two consecutive top six finishes. But the Reds have twice failed to progress beyond the semi-finals of the Championship play-offs, losing to Blackpool and Swansea. And, with the club's relationship with their manager deteriorating following their latest play-off defeat, they have decided to take action and appoint a new man
