Sunderland Sign Keiren Westwood

The Daily Star are reporting that Sunderland have pipped Wolves in the race to sign Coventry keeper Keiren Westwood.Republic of Ireland international Keiren Westwood, 26, who is out of contract at the Ricoh Arena, will join Sunderland on a free transfer on July 1.His arrival at the Stadium of Light places a huge question mark over the long-term future of Craig Gordon. The injury-ravaged Scotland No.1 is out until October after a knee op. Sunderland boss Steve Bruce had planned to open contract talks with Gordon, 28 – but the keeper’s fitness record has forced him to shelve those plans. Now there is a distinct possibility that Britain’s costliest keeper, signed by Roy Keane for £9m four years ago, could walk away for nothing when his contract expires.

Wolves wanted Westwood after releasing Marcus Hahnemann but were told he was Sunderland-bound.
