Arsenal €20m bid for Valencia winger Juan Mata

Arsenal have made a €20m bid for Valencia winger Juan Mata. This morning’s headline for influential Spanish sports daily Marca announces that the 23-year-old left-winger is ‘on the verge’ of signing for the North London club. However, the Gunners will have to battle it out for the player, after the paper also reported that two more Premier League clubs have expressed interest, including Tottenham Hotspurs. According to Marca, Mata’s father is examining the pros and cons of each club that is looking to sign the Spanish international. The winger has a €20m buyout clause in his current contract at Valencia and although the newspaper said that the club may sell for a fee of €15m, Marca’s video service, Marca TV, has confirmed this morning that Arsenal put in a €20m bid late last week. If that is the case, then it would appear that Valencia have no choice but to allow the player to speak to Arsenal in the coming days. With recent reports linking Andrei Arshaving and Emmanuel Eboue to Galatasary, not to mention the seemingly never-ending Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabregas transfer sagas, a big-money acquisition in Arsenal midfield could be just the tonic for Gunners fans that have become increasingly disenchanted with the cautious transfer moves of boss Arsene Wenger.
