Tottenham to land £30m Winger

PSV winger Steven Bergwijn has been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur. The 22-year-old Dutchman missed the Eredivisie game with FC Twente amid speculation over his future.Speculation increased over his future, following reports that Spurs had lodged a bid believed to be in the region of £30million.
Despite PSV interim manager Ernest Faber claiming after his side's draw with FC Twente that Bergwijn had called him to tell him he was not going to play in the match and that Tottenham did not have permission to meet with the player, it was reported that Bergwijn was on his way to London.

Match Report:Tottenham 3-1 Manchester City

A second-half burst from Tottenham saw them claim a vital three points in the race for the top four as they beat Manchester City 3-1.
Spurs made the brighter start, but it was City who took the lead on five minutes following great work on the right by Carlos Tevez and James Milner, the latter finding Samir Nasri in the box and the Frenchman fired in from 10 yards. Nasri almost doubled the lead a few moments later, latching onto Pablo Zabaleta's ball but he couldn't direct his effort goalwards due to good pressure from Hugo Lloris. That was the first of a string of saves the French keeper was forced to make, as after 38 minutes he got down low to his right to block an Edin Dzeko shot, before shortly saving smartly from a close-range Tevez header. The visitors continued to control proceedings in the second half and, although Spurs did push for an equaliser, the hosts struggled to create any real chances. However, that all changed on 74 minutes as, after good work from Walker, Gareth Bale angled a wonderful ball across the box and Clint Dempsey tapped in at the back post. Jermain Defoe then fired them into the lead five minutes later, cutting in from the left and smashing home. Bale then made it 3-1 after 81 minutes, latching onto Tom Huddlestone's through ball before exquisitely chipping over Hart to wrap-up a vital three points in his side's bid for a top-four spot.

Sunderland eye Spurs defender Dawson

Sunderland are reportedly interested in Spurs defender Michael Dawson, amid talk of a £5million January offer.Dawson was heavily linked with a move away from White Hart Lane in the summer and it was thought the England international was very close to joining QPR in a £5.5million deal following new boss Andre Villas-Boas' arrival.The 29-year-old was often overlooked at the start of the season, but he has worked hard in recent weeks to win his place back in the Spurs side and is thought to be keen to stay, despite interest from elsewhere.New QPR boss Harry Redknapp, who knows Dawson well from his time at Spurs, is keeping a close eye on the situation, while Sunderland chief Martin O'Neill is also interested.
AVB might be willing to listen to offers for the former Nottingham Forest youngster and anything in the £5-6million bracket could tempt him to sell.

Panathinaikos 1-1 Tottenham

Tottenham were denied all three points as a late goal from Jose Toche ensured a 1-1 draw against Panathinaikos in Athens.Andre Villas-Boas picked a strong starting line-up for the Europa League trip to Greece and his team dominated the majority of the game.Spurs had a strong penalty shout on only two minutes when Andre Pinto looked to have handled in his own area, but the referee waved away their protests.Clint Dempsey and Aaron Lennon both had good opportunities before Michael Dawson put the Premier League side ahead on 34 minutes.The central defender's flicked header from a Tom Huddlestone cross gave Tottenham a deserved lead, before Gareth Bale and Huddlestone both forced saves from the Panathinaikos keeper before half-time.A sedate second-half looked to be going Spurs' way as they dominated proceedings, but Toche pounced on 76 minutes to slot home from a Giourkas Seitaridis ball and pull the home side level.Spurs could not find a second goal and will regard the draw as two points lost after they let a game they were controlling, slip through their grasp in Greece.

Lazio face UEFA probe for 'monkey chants' against Tottenham

Italian side Lazio will face disciplinary proceedings after their fans were accused of racist behaviour during the Europa League clash at Tottenham, UEFA said on Friday.Monkey chants were aimed at three of Tottenham's black players, Jermain Defoe, Aaron Lennon and Andros Townsend during the game at White Hart Lane which ended in a 0-0 draw."UEFA has begun disciplinary proceedings against Lazio for 'improper conduct' by the club's supporters during Thursday's Europa League tie against Tottenham," said a UEFA statement."The Control and Disciplinary Body will meet on 18 October to discuss the case."Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas had said after the match that UEFA should take action if there was a case to answer.

"UEFA is very active on this kind of situation so and our overall objective is to kick racism out of football," said Villas-Boas.

Spurs still want Moutinho

Spurs will make a renewed bid to sign Porto midfielder Joao Moutinho in January but are unlikely to match their offer of £24m.Spurs had almost completed the signing of the Portuguese international on deadline day only for the deal to collapse at the last minute with many blaming Porto for the failure of the deal.
Chairman Daniel Levy looks set to make a renewed bid for the 25-year-old in January as he looks for a long term replacement for Luka Modric but the signs are that the 25-year-old has priced himself out of a move and Tottenham will eventually look elsewhere as they refuse to be held to ransom by Porto.

Match Report: Tottenham 1-1 Norwich City

Robert Snodgrass scored a dramatic late equaliser as Norwich consigned 10-man Tottenham to their worst start to a Premier League season for four years.Mousa Dembele had put the hosts on course for their first league win of the season with a goal on debut.But, with time running out, the Norwich midfielder found the space to unleash a low left-foot shoot that flashed beyond Spurs goalkeeper Brad Friedel.Substitute Tom Huddlestone was shown a straight red card in the 90th minute.Boos echoed around White Hart Lane at the final whistle, with Andre Villas-Boas still without a competitive win as Tottenham manager.There could be little dispute about the result, however. It was just reward for Chris Hughton's powers of organisation on an emotional day for the Norwich manager as he returned to the club where he had spent 28 years, as a player and then a coach.Villa-Boas could not afford to accommodate such sentiment. Having been beaten by Newcastle on the opening day and frustrated by West Brom last weekend, the pressing need for points and for that elusive first win was at the forefront in his mind. The wait goes on.This was a performance that epitomised Spurs' faltering progress so far this season: style but no substance, beauty but no brawn, panache but no penetration. Dembele's goal apart, Villa-Boas's side lacked confidence, cohesion and sustained threat.In contrast Norwich pushed and probed, frustrated and confounded their more celebrated opponents and their uncomplicated, direct approach put Spurs under serious duress. For a period during the second half it appeared Spurs might snatch victory thanks to Dembele's heroics but Snodgrass found the net with five minutes remaining.Norwich might have stolen all three points but for the brilliance of goalkeeper Brad Friedel.Twice during the first half the 41-year-old showed his apparent replacement, France goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, that he will have to be at his very best to displace him, first tipping Russell Martin's thundering header onto the crossbar before throwing himself to his right to prevent Snodgrass's clever header.Tactically smart, Norwich's work-rate was also admirable, their players often doubling up on Tottenham's main threats like Gareth Bale and Aaron Lennon. Jermain Defoe also found he had unwelcome, unstinting company.Norwich maintained their momentum after the interval as first Grant Holt headed over from six yards, before winger Anthony Pilkington drew another important save from Friedel.The introduction of the £15m Dembele and Emmanuel Adebayor shortly after the interval did alter the game, however. The former Fulham midfielder burst forward after 67 minutes, exchanging passes with Defoe and spinning beyond his defender before thumping a low shot across Norwich goalkeeper John Ruddy into the net.Aware that his team surrendered a 1-0 lead in injury-time last weekend, Villas-Boas brought Huddlestone on for his first game in just over a year but the visitors kept coming.They were denied a penalty when Benoit Assou-Ekotto appeared to pull substitute Steve Morison's shirt in the box with time running out but when Pilkington found Snodgrass in the penalty area with five minutes left, the former Leeds midfielder thundered home through a crowded penalty area to empty salt into an already raw wound.
There was more disappointment for Spurs when Huddlestone was given a straight red for a mistimed tackle on Jonny Howson, while Bradley Johnson almost won it in injury time, only for Friedel to deny him again.

Tottenham swoop late to beat Liverpool to Dempsey

Tottenham beat the transfer deadline by minutes to wrap up a late swoop for Fulham striker Clint Dempsey.Liverpool always looked in the box seat to sign the forward, while Aston Villa also made a late enquiry on Friday to take the American on a season-long loan deal.However Tottenham have swooped to sign the player for an undisclosed fee while the length of the contract has also yet to be revealed.A statement on the Fulham website read: "Fulham Football Club can confirm that, on Friday evening, Clint Dempsey joined Tottenham Hotspur. Clint was a very influential player for Fulham over a number of seasons and the Club thanks him for his contribution and wishes him well for the future."Dempsey is also delighted with the move and cannot wait to get started.
"To play under this head coach and play for this club is a dream come true. I want to make the most of it," he said on Tottenham's Twitter feed."There are a lot of great players here, I'm looking forward to training and playing with them."

Bale blasts Adam as injury threatens season start

Tottenham's pre-season friendly in the United States has turned nasty with Gareth Bale launching a scathing post-match attack on Liverpool's Charlie Adam.

Bale was a victim of Adam's late tackle on Saturday, suffering a major injury scare to his left ankle before the new Premier League season has already begun.

But the Welshman later accused Adam of a pre-mediated and calculated attack and alleged he deliberately targeted him for special treatment during the goalless draw between the two English teams.

Significantly, there is also a history of ill-feeling between these two players.

Adam, who was playing for Blackpool at the time, escaped a Football Association charge after rupturing Bale's ankle ligaments and ending the Tottenham winger's season early in May 2011 following a stamp at White Hart Lane.

And with relations already strained the bad blood spilled over here as Bale turned on Adam, branding him a coward amid claims he set out to deliberately injure him.

"He's obviously come for me twice now - and he's got me twice," said Bale. "From what I've seen of him on pitch, I think he's a bit of a coward.

"There are pictures on the internet of what he did before when he snapped all my ankle ligaments. I was out for three months that time and one player told me he went out to do the same thing to me again.

"It's flattering when players try to take you out in a game but when it threatens your career, it becomes more serious than that.

"I would have understood it had it been a slightly miss-timed tackle, even though it was just a friendly. But the ball was 10 yards past him already and was nowhere near him when he came through my ankle.

"It's unsportsmanlike and I don't think any player should be like that. That's what kind of person he is like - he's done it before."

He continued: "I was surprised to see a challenge like that in a friendly. We're all over here to build our fitness and get a good workout and what he did was over the top, to be honest.

"I haven't ever done anything to him. But some people are like that and it's just wrong."

Spurs anger
Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas, so incensed that he is considering reporting the Scottish midfielder to the FA, exchanged angry words with Adam as the ugly incident raised temperatures in the Baltimore sunshine.

Bale later claimed he received no apology from Adam following the 19th minute challenge, but says he would now turn down any offer of an olive branch to end their feud.

"He didn't say anything to me afterwards. I've had no apology," he added. "When someone makes a very bad tackle on you in a game you expect him to come up and apologise.

"But I've had no apology from him and I don't really want one from him to be honest. I'm not going to accept his apology."

Bale, who hit the headlines following his early return from a back injury during this tour despite pulling out of Team GB's Olympics plans, fears he could now be heading back for another spell on the sidelines.

He faces a scan on his left ankle and left the M&T Bank Stadium wearing a protective boot, and the 23-year-old added: "All I want to do is play my game and play it in the right way.

"My ankle is sore - very, very sore. We'll have to wait and see how it goes. I'll probably have to have a scan."

Adam refused to comment when given the chance to apologise.

Ledley King retires after long battle with injury

Tottenham Hotspur's injury-plagued defender Ledley King announced his retirement from the game on Thursday.King, an elegant and assured centre back, has suffered with chronic knee problems which restricted his training and game time in recent seasons.He made 323 first-team appearances since making his senior debut in 1999. He also won 21 caps for England.Spurs said King, 31, will remain at the club in an ambassador role."I have been here since I was a boy, I have always considered it my club and have always found it hard to imagine wearing the shirt of another team," King told the Spurs website (www.tottenhamhotspur.com).
"I know that being a one-club man is a rarity these days, but I have always enjoyed being part of the set-up here and the challenge of putting this Club up with the elite where it should be.

"I would like to say thank you to everyone at the club and to the fans. I have missed a lot of football over the years, but the Spurs fans have always been patient and incredibly supportive with me during difficult periods.

"Sadly my injuries and inability to train have now finally brought an end to my career."

Spurs will stage a testimonial for King at White Hart Lane at the end of the 2012-2013 season.

"Ledley has made a magnificent contribution to this Club - as a wonderful player, captain and ambassador," said Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.

"It has been well documented how he has battled against injury over the years and it is testament to the character of the man how he managed to sustain such high standards of performance on the pitch, while providing such fine leadership."

Tottenham Land Jan Vertonghen

Tottenham have confirmed the signing of Belgian defender Jan Vertonghen after he finally resolved his dispute with Ajax.His £9m switch to Spurs will now officially go through once he has passed his medical at White Hart Lane following talks between the Dutch giants and his representatives to push through the deal.Vertonghen is now heading to England to rubber-stamp the transfer after a very impressive season in Holland in which the centre-back was named as Eredivisie Player of the Year as well as Ajax's star man, having scored 10 times in 37 appearances.The 25-year-old, who has just led his team as captain to a second straight league title, feared at one stage that his dream move to the Premier League wouldn't happen, due to a disagreement with Ajax over his percentage of the transfer fee.However, a resolution to the conflict has now been thrashed out, with Vertonghen becoming the second new arrival at Spurs under Andre Villas-Boas following hot on the heels of Gylfi Sigurdsson's arrival from Hoffenheim.

Bale Sign new Tottenham Contract

Gareth Bale has ended speculation over his immediate future by signing a new four-year contract with Tottenham.The Welsh international has been strongly linked with a summer exit from White Hart Lane, with Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid believed to have been chasing his signature.Following Harry Redknapp's exit earlier this month and Spurs yet to announce a replacement, there were growing concerns that Bale might decide to leave.The 22-year-old though insists he is happy to remain a Tottenham player and now has a contract that will run until 2016.Bale told the Spurs official website: "The club is progressing and I want to be a part of that, so it was great to get the deal done. I've been here for five years now and I've enjoyed every minute. I love the club and the fans.
"We've a good, young squad and we need to work together to get back on the biggest stage again."

Harry Redknapp Leaves Tottenham

Harry Redknapp is to leave his post as Tottenham manager, the club announced this morning.Redknapp and agent Paul Stretford spent yesterday in negotiations with chairman Daniel Levy and it became clear last night the former Portsmouth boss was close to ending his three-and-a-half-year tenure at White Hart Lane.The 65-year-old had 12 months left on his contract and is understood to have been unhappy with Levy's failure to offer him a new three-year deal.Levy told the Spurs website: "This is not a decision the board and I have taken lightly. "Harry arrived at the club at a time when his experience and approach was exactly what was needed."This decision in no way detracts from the excellent work Harry has done during his time with the club and I should like to thank him for his achievements and contribution. Harry will always be welcome at the Lane."Redknapp added: "I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Spurs and am proud of my achievements.
"I have had a fantastic four years with the club, at times the football has been breathtaking.
"I am sad to be leaving but wish to thank the players, staff and fans for their terrific support during my time there."

Negotiations over a new deal for Redknapp have stalled since the start of the year when Redknapp, who guided Spurs to fourth place in the Premier League last season, was linked with the then vacant England manager's job.

Machester United Chasing Tottenham's Luka Modric

Manchester United are set to turn their attentions to Luka Modric after Eden Hazard snubbed them for Chelsea by making a £22 million bid for the Tottenham playmaker .The Croatia midfielder has been on Sir Alex Ferguson's wish-list for some time.But although Tottenham value him at around £30m, United are unwilling to pay that much for the 26-year-old playmaker.Manchester United are confident of luring Modric since Spurs failed to secure Champions League football next season.The player tried to force through a move to Chelsea last summer but Spurs chairman Daniel Levy rejected offers from Stamford Bridge.Modric is now ready to submit another transfer request, with Tottenham unlikely to stand in his way for a second summer, the report added.However, Spurs will hold out for as much money as they can, and United are certain to have to increase their initial offer.

Mulumbu in talks with Tottenham over move

Midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu has confirmed he wants to leave West Brom and has already held talks with Spurs.The 25-year-old was a regular for the Baggies last season and is under contract at The Hawthorns for another three years but wants a move away as he is seeking "a new challenge".
Mulumbu has confirmed his agent has already held talks with both Spurs and Newcastle about a possible summer switch and hopes a transfer is sorted out by the time he returns from holiday.
"My agent and I have begun discussions with Newcastle and Tottenham," the midfielder revealed. "I'll leave everything in my agent's hands and hope to have a pleasant surprise when I come back from my holidays.
"I need to seek a new challenge. I hope to join a club on another level."

Tottenham Leading chase to land Blackburn star

Tottenham are among the frontrunners to sign Blackburn ace Steven N'Zonzi, who is set to leave Blackburn Rovers after relegation.N'Zonzi has been linked with eight Premier League clubs to date and seems certain to leave the Ewood Park outfit after they slipped down to the Championship earlier this month.The midfielder, who joined Rovers from Amiens in 2009, has impressed during Steve Kean's struggles this season and has attracted plenty of attention from across the Premier League.Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is an admirer but if he does decide to pursue his interest this summer he is likely to face plenty of competition.Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Sunderland, Everton and Fulham are also keen and some clubs have reportedly already held talks with N'Zonzi's representatives over a deal, with Rovers likely to sell for around £3-4million.

Agent claims Moses to quit Wigan

Nigeria winger Victor Moses is ready to quit Wigan Athletic this summer, his agent has disclosed.

Tottenham, Liverpool, Sunderland, Newcastle and QPR are ready to grab the Nigeria youngster as Wigan has reported to have slammed a £10million price tag on the player.

Wigan has been in talks with the 21-year-old about a contract extension, but sources close to the player claim it falls well short of the Nigeria international’s expectations.

After helping Wigan escape relegation, Moses is looking to the future and his agent Tony Finnigan has confirmed that he is ready to leave the DW Stadium.

“I think Moses performance and what Wigan has done is tremendous and shows it was the right place for him to go after Palace. But now I think Victor is ready for the next step,” Finnigan is quoted as saying.

“He still has lots of improving to do in terms of scoring goals more regularly. But I think that would come if he was surrounded by better players.

“That’s what he wants and is why he won’t be extending his contract. I can’t see Victor changing his mind.”

Tottenham Hotspur 1-3 Manchester United

Manchester United rode their luck before keeping the pressure on league leaders Manchester City with a 3-1 win at third-placed Spurs. But Tottenham, after being crushed 5-2 in last weekend's north London derby, must now be looking over their shoulders at the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Newcastle United and Liverpool, as the race for a top-four place intensifies. It is definitely now a two-horse race for the title though as United are just two points behind Roberto Mancini's side again, but 11 clear of Spurs. However, the final scoreline did not tell the full story as Harry Redknapp's team dominated the first half and had a goal disallowed by referee Martin Atkinson for handball by Emmanuel Adebayor. The official ruled that the Togo international had used his arm to control the ball before flicking it into the net. It seemed harsh on Spurs but worse was to come as Wayne Rooney headed United ahead against the run of play on the stroke of half time from Ashley Young's corner. Redknapp's men seemed unperturbed by their misfortune as they continued to dominate the early stages of the second period but two goals by former Watford and Aston Villa star Young finally doused their enthusiasm. He doubled United's lead with a sweet volley from a tight angle on the hour mark before curling home a third goal past Brad Friedel nine minutes later. The result was never in doubt from that moment on, although substitute Jermain Defoe did grab a late consolation goal with a 20-yard effort after a rare Ryan Giggs error.

Redknapp Targeting Krul

Reports suggest that Newcastle 'keeper Tim Krul will be Harry Redknapp's number one summer target if he remains at Tottenham. The Magpies shot-stopper has been in impressive form this campaign and has helped his side remain near the top end of the Premier League table. Current Tottenham goalkeeper Brad Friedel turns 41 in May so Redknapp will be keen to find a younger man to step into his shoes with the prospect of playing the Champions League likely for his replacement. Redknapp is however, the bookies favourite to pick up the England job at the end of the season, with the European Championship in the summer. The public have made it clear they want the 64-year old to replace Fabio Capello, who resigned from his post earlier this month. Krul's contract is set to expire at the Sports Direct Arena in 2014 and he has a £15 million price tag on his shoulders following interest from Tottenham in the January transfer window.

Tottenham Land Brazilian U20 Captain

Tottenham have snapped up Brazilian prospect Bruno Uvini from Sao Paulo, although he won't be able to play for club until next season. The defender, who has captained his country's under-20 side to World Cup success in August, has joined Spurs on loan initially for three-and-a-half months. However, a £3.2m fee has been agreed between the two clubs to make his stay in England permanent in the summer providing he can settle into his new surroundings and a different style of football. Uvini, who is still waiting for his debut for the senior Brazilian national team, won't need a work permit as he holds an Italian passport. He can't play for Spurs' first-team this season as he has been signed outside of the transfer window although he will be eligible to turn out for the club's reserves. Uvini told Sao Paulo's official website: "It's a great opportunity that came by, I couldn't let it pass. "I have been in talks with Tottenham for a while, it's a great club, with worldwide visibility. They asked me to come right away. "It'll be there for three months during which time I'll try to adapt to English football and to the culture. I think I'm going to evolve, both professionally and personally by doing this choice. "[Tottenham] have this squad renewing project so they asked me to join the team so that I will be fit to make my way in the next season."
