Ryan Babel fined £10000 over Howard Webb Twitter outburst

Ryan Babel has been fined £10,000 and warned about his future conduct for posting comments and a doctored picture of Howard Webb on Twitter.
The Holland international was charged with improper conduct by the Football Association after he used the social networking site to criticise the official.
After the Reds' FA Cup exit at Manchester United, where Liverpool conceded a controversial first-minute penalty and had captain Steven Gerrard sent off, Babel posted a mocked-up picture of Webb wearing a United shirtHe also wrote: 'And they call him one of the best referees? That's a joke. SMH (shaking my head).'
Babel later apologised for his comments and posted: 'My apology if they take my posted pic seriously. This is just an emotional reaction after losing an important game. Sorry Howard Webb.'
At a regulatory commission hearing the 24-year-old was fined £10,000 and warned as to his future conduct.

On this site we have the luxury of being able to express our own opinion. Unlike Ryan Babel who has been charged with improper conduct for making comments on Twitter about Howard Webb and posting
a picture of him ‘enhanced’ with a Man U shirt. Those in football are not allowed to question the integrity of the officials. Not allowed to suggest that some officials favour one team over another. So I’ll say it instead. Some officials favour Man U over other teams. The show pony that is Howard Webb is one such example. He has taken charge of Man U’s last two home matches and blatantly favoured them on both occasions. There, I’ve said it. Two soft penalties to his favourites and a harsh straight red for Gerrard. I’m no Gerrard sympathiser. Occasionally his tackling is vile. However he was unlucky on Sunday that everybody’s ‘Mr Nice Guy’, Ryan Giggs, was there to spend a couple of minutes persuading Webb to send off a fellow professional. Webb took a while to enjoy the spotlight before shooing Gerrard off to the soon to be vandalised, bowels of Old Trafford. This was the same Howard Webb who had the World Cup final stage to strut about on last summer.The one where the Dutch ran around kicking the Spanish to ribbons. Most of it much worse than Gerard’s collision with Carrick. Two or three red cards would have been justified. But this is the World Cup final and we don’t want controversy. So, there we have it. Different interpretations of the law depending upon the game and the venue. Just like I said.

Ryan Babel says sorry to Howard Webb for Manchester United shirt mock-up

The Football Association were today investigating whether Liverpool forward Ryan Babel would face disciplinary action following his criticism of referee Howard Webb on Twitter.

The Holland international used his Twitter account to post a mocked-up picture of the World Cup final referee wearing a Manchester United shirt following his side's 1-0 FA Cup third-round defeat at Old Trafford.

The official awarded a controversial first-minute penalty to United after Daniel Agger was adjudged to have brought down Dimitar Berbatov and sent off Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard after diving into a tackle on Michael Carrick in the 31st minute.

Babel also wrote: "And they call him one of the best referees? That's a joke. SMH (shaking my head)."

The 24-year-old later added: "My apology if they take my posted pic seriously. This is just an emotional reaction after losing an important game. Sorry Howard Webb."
