Barcelona set to hijack Bruno Fernandes transfer

Barcelona are reportedly preparing to hijack Manchester United's move for Bruno Fernandes.
United made Fernandes their top January transfer target but have so far failed to reach an agreement with Sporting Lisbon.
The Red Devils are understood to be willing to pay around £55m with add-ons, although Sporting want £65m.They face a race against time to get the deal done and reports in Spain suggest Barcelona have now entered the race.

And the Catalan giants will then loan Fernandes to La Liga rivals Valencia for the remainder of the season.Barcelona and Valencia are still locked in negotiations over a deal to take Rodrigo to the Nou Camp.A medical is scheduled, with Valencia looking to take Nelson Semedo to the Mestalla from Barca
And the La Liga giants will also offer to loan Fernandes to their rivals, if they complete his signing from Sporting.

Barcelona set to land Rodrigo Moreno

Barcelona have been linked with Valencia and Spain striker Rodrigo Moreno as they seek a replacement for Luis Suarez.Given that Barcelona are looking for a striker who can perform straight away, Rodrigo is considered a good option because there is a belief that he'd adapt well to Quique Setien's style of play. The problem for Barcelona is that this transfer would be costly, as Valencia don't want to sell for anything less than 60 million euros.Barcelona are in need of reinforcements in the centre-forward department after Luis Suarez was ruled out for the season, having had to undergo a knee surgery. With Ousmane Dembele struggling with injury issues and Antoine Griezmann still adapting to life with in Catalonia, the Blaugrana have been over-dependent on captain Lionel Messi.

Barca set to raid Arsenal again

Barcelona are set to make an offer for Arsenal central defender Thomas Vermaelen.New Barca coach Tito Vilanova has just added Jordi Alba to his squad after he signed from Valencia but reports claim he wants another defender and Vermaelen is the target.Vilanova failed with a move to sign AC Milan star Thiago Silva, who signed a new deal at the San Siro last month and he is now ready to turn his attentions to the Gunners star.Vermaelen still has three years to run on his contract at the Emirates Stadium and Arsene Wenger will not want to sell but there is a chance the Belgian star could have his head turned if Barca make an approach.

Barcelona Preparing Gareth Bale Swoop

Barcelona have had scouts watching Gareth Bale in action and are said to be preparing a £35m offer for the Welshman. Harry Redknapp has repeatedly said he will not sell his flying winger but that has not stopped the speculation about him, and Barcelona are apparently ready should the Spurs boss show any signing of easing his stance. The 22-year-old is under contract until 2015, and is reportedly earning £75,000 a week in the process, but that has not stopped the speculation after Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola sent his top scout to watch him in action.Although Bale operates the left wing at Tottenham, Guardiola sees the Wales star as an attacking left-back and the ideal replacement for Maxwell, Eric Abidal and Adriano, who are all seen as weak links. The Tottenham man's pace and ability to deliver to the killer ball from out wide would also mirror that of Danny Alves on the right. Both Milan clubs are also interested as are Real Madrid but having fought off Chelsea's attempts to land Luka Modric in the summer Spurs remain confident they can repel all offers.

Liverpool Linked With Shock David Villa Move

Liverpool are being linked with a shock move for David Villa amid rumours the Barcelona striker has fallen out with Lionel Messi.Spain’s premier radio station Cadena SER report that the Reds made initial contact with Villa’s agent in an attempt to establish whether a deal could be brokered. It’s unclear what they were told, but Barcelona-based newspaper Sport, are claiming Liverpool are planning to push ahead with their interest in the Spanish international as they look find an adequate replacement for Fernando Torres. January’s £35million signing Andy Carroll has so far failed to impress, while Dirk Kuyt and Craig Bellamy have failed to cement a place alongside Luis Suarez in the Reds firing line. The Anfield owners have already proven they're not scared of splashing the cash, but will surely demand boss Kenny Dalglish make a significant sale before they bankroll any bid for Villa. Barcelona manager Pepe Guardiola has recently denied that any bad feelings exist between Villa and Messi, saying: ‘It is impossible to be an enemy of David, he is too nice a person. 'He is generous both in the way he plays football and also in his personal life. It is impossible not to get on well with him.’ Villa has just three goals in eleven La Liga appearances this season, and is competing with Messi, Pedro, Ibrahim Afellay and Alexis Sanchez for a place up front, although the later two are currently injured.

Barca,AC Milanand Spurs Chase Brazilian Wonderkid

Barcelona have joined AC Milan and Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Internacional starlet Oscar after the Brazilian wonderkid was dubbed the new Kaka. The Blaugrana are reported to have had scouts monitor the progress of the 20-year-old playmaker after he rose to prominence with a hat-trick in the final of the 2011 FIFA Under-20 World Cup in the summer. Milan have been linked with the player, whose full name is Oscar dos Santos Emboaba Junior, for several weeks but have yet to make official contact, according to Sport. Internacional have seen scouts from several major European clubs attend their games due to the interest in striker Leandro Damiao and reports soon filtered back about Oscar. Tottenham Hotspur have a partnership agreement with the Porto Algre-based outfit and could have first refusal on the youngster if they want to make their interest concrete. Oscar joined Internacional from Sao Paulo in 2010 and has made only 22 appearances for the first team after playing only as handful of times before making the move. After helping his club win the Copa Libertadores in 2010, the midfielder won the Campeonato Gaucho and Recopa Sudamerica this year. Last month Oscar made his first two appearances for Brazil's first team when he played in the Superclasico de las Americas double header against Argentin

Bacelona And Arsenal Finally Agree Fabregas Deal

Arsenal and Barcelona have confirmed they have reached an "agreement in principle" over the sale of Cesc Fabregas to the Spanish club. It means the 24-year-old Gunners captain is set to return to the team he left as a 16-year-old in 2003. He will now discuss personal terms and undergo a medical on Monday. "We understand Cesc's desire to move to his home-town club and have now accepted an offer from Barcelona," said Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger. "We have been clear that we didn't want Cesc to leave and that remains the case. "We thank Cesc for his contribution at Arsenal and wish him future success." Barcelona have been chasing Fabregas since last summer. As BBC Sport revealed on Friday, Arsenal will receive a guaranteed £30m transfer fee, with a further £5m dependent on the number of games played and trophies won by the Spaniard during his time at the Nou Camp. News of the deal was confirmed at half-time of the first leg of Barcelona's Spanish Super Cup match against Real Madrid on Sunday, which ended 2-2. The Spanish champions later stated on their official website that Fabregas will undergo a medical at Barcelona hospital at 0700 BST on Monday, before having a further test at Barcelona's medical centre at 0930 BST. He is then scheduled to sign his contract at 1130 BST before being unveiled to the media at 1300 BST. Meanwhile, Wenger will have to face the media ahead of Tuesday's Champions League qualifier against Udinese. Fabregas trained with his Arsenal team-mates for the final time on Friday morning and was not part of Wenger's squad for Saturday's Premier League opener against Newcastle, which finished 0-0. He had missed the club's summer tour of Asia as well as other pre-season games, including the Emirates Cup, because of a hamstring injury. The Spaniard, who has 58 caps for his country, made 303 appearances for the Gunners during his eight-year spell in north London, scoring 57 goals in all competitions. In October 2003, he became Arsenal's youngest first-team player when he made his debut against Rotherham United in the Carling Cup aged 16 years and 177 days. He also became the club's youngest goalscorer when he netted against Wolves in a 5-1 win that December. Fabregas was part of the Arsenal team that beat Manchester United on penalties to win the 2005 FA Cup, which turned out to be his only major trophy with the Gunners. He went on to become Arsenal captain in November 2008. Striker Robin van Persie is likely to take over as the new permanent Arsenal skipper, although he will be suspended for the Udinese match after being shown a red card against Barcelona in the Champions League last season. When quizzed on the futures of Fabregas and Samir Nasri - who BBC Sport understands is close to a move to Manchester City - at a news conference on Friday, Wenger had said he expected "nobody to leave" Arsenal.

Barcelona Players Welcome Fabregas via Twitter

Cesc Fabregas' prolonged move from Arsenal now looks set to reach a conclusion on Monday after Barcelona told him to delay his flight. The Gunners captain had been scheduled to board the first plane available after saying goodbye to his team-mates, but the Catalans have instead instructed him to stay in London until after their Spanish Super Cup game against Real Madrid on Sunday. Barca are desperate to make sure the deal isn't jeopardised at this late stage of negotiations after waiting so long to secure his signature. With that in mind, Pepe Guardiola has since advised Fabregas to hang fire with Arsenal still haggling over the finer details of his transfer, following the European champions' announcement at lunchtime that everything had been more or less agreed on a £35m switch. Fabregas is widely tipped to sign a five-year contract on Monday and confirmation of the move will bring an end to over a season worth of speculation about the midfielder's future. He will play no part in the Gunners' season opener at Newcastle tomorrow either. Barcelona stars Gerard Pique and Carles Puyol pre-empted an official announcement by posting on Twitter to welcome Fabregas back to the Camp Nou, where he started his career in the youth team. "Booooyyyy!!! Welcome home!!! Happy to have you here," said Barca captain Puyol while Pique added: "He's finally here!!".

Fulham Bid £7m for Barcelona Striker

Fulham have attempted to steal a march on Liverpool in the race to sign Jeffren by making a formal bid for the Barcelona forward. The Spain Under-21s international looks set to leave Barca this summer after failing to secure a regular spot in the club's star-studded first team.
It was thought the 23-year-old would move to Udinese as part of a deal that would see Chile international Alexis Sanchez join the European champions.Jeffren's father has now revealed his son has no interest in signing for an Italian club and is only prepared to consider Spanish or English teams.Liverpool have long been credited with an interest in Jeffren, but new Fulham boss Martin Jol is also a fan.According to Sport, the Cottagers have made the first move by submitting a £7.2 million bid.It is thought the sum is more than Liverpool or Valencia, another club keen on the Venezuelan-born star, are prepared to offer.
However, it is not clear whether Jeffren is willing to join a club of Fulham's mid-table standing after spending his whole career to date at Barcelona.
The player and his father, who acts as his agent, are due to meet Barca officials on Monday to discuss his future.

Swansea to open Soriano talks

Swansea are set to open talks with Barcelona striker Jonathan Soriano with a view to wrapping up a £1m deal. The 25-year-old caught the eye of Swans boss Brendan Rodgers last season when he fired home 32 goals for the Barca B team and the striker is now high on his wanted list.Chairman Huw Jenkings is refusing to confirm that Swansea are in the hunt for Soriano but did say he is due to open talks with the agent of a player they hope to sign.
"I will be meeting with the representative of a player that we feel will be perfect for Swansea City," Jenkins told the South Wales Evening Post.
"He has the talent that would fit in to the style in which we believe in, and we are hopeful of him coming here. By flying out to meet his representative, I hope we can agree a deal within the next few days.We will talk about what we want to achieve as a club, and what the player wishes to achieve too."
Swansea will have to move quickly to secure a deal for Soriano as there will be no shortage of interest in the player.

Real Mardrid Bid £45m for Fabregas

Real Madrid have contacted Arsenal about the availability of captain Cesc Fabregas and are ready to pay the Gunners £45m for the Spaniard, according to reports.Sky Sports News reporter and Spanish correspondent Graham Hunter believes Madrid have contacted the Gunners and enquired about Fabregas, with the La Liga giants ready to outbid rivals Barcelona.Fabregas has been linked with a move back ‘home’ to Barca for several years now and it has been highly expected that the move would finally go through this summer. However, the major stumbling block has always been Barca’s valuation of the player with them refusing to pay beyond £30m, which is well short of Arsenal valuation. However, Real are understood to be ready to submit a bid of £45m which may force Barcelona to up their offer. Arsenal would of course prefer to sell to the highest bidder but it’s unlikely Fabregas would consider a move to any other side except his boyhood team (Barcelona).

Arsenal Reject £27m Fabregas Bid From Barcelona

Arsenal have rejected a £27 million bid from Barcelona for skipper Cesc Fabregas, according to reports in the Guardian, Daily Mail, and The Sun.Fabregas this week revealed his admiration for the Catalan club, and their manager Pep Guardiola, but this latest development in the ongoing saga over the midfielder's future could spell the end of further speculation.Barca president Sando Rosell has made it clear the club will not spend more than £35 million on Fabregas due to the 24-year-old's recurring hamstring injuries.Rosell said recently: "If last year we offered 40 million Euros [£35.5 million], it is clear that this year his value is less. Since then there has been wear and tear and he is worth less."Guardiola knows the values of players and Cesc's is less than 40 million Euros. Barcelona will offer less and, if they don't accept, then he won't come."It is understood the most recent offer was made verbally by Barca's vice president Josep Maria Bartomeu during his visit to London this week, but was rejected immediately by Gunners chief executive Ivan Gazidis. Barcelona are expected to make one final play to snare Fabregas, however with both clubs evidently differing on their value of the player, it appears the stand-off may be a permanent one.

Manchester City Back in Alexis Sanchez Race

Reports from Spain suggest Barcelona’s bid for Alexis Sanchez has hit problems, letting Manchester City back in the race for the Udinese star.
Barça had been expected to complete the signing of Chile international Sanchez this week for €39m, including performance-related bonuses, plus Jeffren. However, radio station Ona FM claim negotiations hit a big stumbling block late this afternoon. It seems that forward Jeffren has refused the move to Udinese in part-exchange for El Nino Maravilla.
Unless the two clubs can decide on another player to be included in the deal, this could let Manchester City back into the race for Sanchez.
Sky Sport Italia suggest Udinese want the Chilean to accept City’s offer of €40m plus €5m in bonuses

Manchester City head race for Alexis Sanchez

Udinese last night claimed Manchester City were leading the race to sign their Chilean forward Alexis Sanchez, though they insisted that a concrete offer matching their £35m valuation has not yet been forthcoming. The comments by the Italian club's owner Giampaolo Pozzo, a legendary wheeler-dealer, sound like an attempt to whip up an auction now that the 22-year-old's mooted move to Barcelona has not taken place.Udinese may well delay a decision until the conclusion of their Champions League play-off tie.
Sanchez is one of City's top targets, though, and in confirming their interest, Pozzo did not suggest there would be the reported competition from Manchester United or Chelsea.
"The right offer has not yet arrived," he said. "Alexis is a player everybody wants, but he is also a player with a specific price. It is not easy for anyone to buy him."And if he and his agent (Fernando Felicevich) are intelligent people, they will know that firstly we cannot give him away, and secondly if people are not prepared to give him the right consideration, it is better to stay in Udinese than to risk getting burned out or seeing his reputation suffer.

"(Internazionale, Juventus, Barcelona, City) are all interested but concrete offers, for his real value (£35m), have not arrived. I think it is 50-50 that he will stay here, but if he does go I would say that the (likelihood) is to City, because English football is the richest and knows how to evaluate its talent.

"Inter? There has only been a request to talk, but we have not spoken in any definitive form. These things are not done until the last minute, though," he added

BARCELONA PLOT NEW £40M CESC FABREGAS SWOOP

BARCELONA will make another attempt to sign Cesc Fabregas for £40m after lifting the European Cup.Champions League winners Barcelona have been trying to land Arsenal skipper Cesc Fabregas for two years but Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has repeatedly made it clear he has no desire to sell his captain. But the Spanish champs just refuse to go away and have agreed to up their bid by £10m in an attempt to prise him from Arsenal’s grasp. After beating Manchester United at Wembley coach Pep Guardiola has held fresh talks with club president Sandro Rossell about Fabregas. And the 24-year-old remains their No.1 target.A source close to Barca said last night: “They still have not spoken formally to Arsenal about him. “They had wanted to do it while they were in London for the Champions League Final but it never happened. But they will not give up.”

Last summer Fabregas went public with his desire to leave and join Barcelona after lengthy talks with Wenger. This time he is expected to remain silent while negotiations carry on behind the scenes. As well as the improved cash offer for Fabregas, Barca would also allow Arsenal to choose one of their young players as part of any deal.Guardiola wants Fabregas as back-up to Xavi and Andres Iniesta so he can rotate players more.

Arsenal want Wigan’s £15m-rated midfielder James McCarthy.Wigan boss Roberto Martinez will hold talks in a desperate attempt to keep the 20-year-old.The Republic of Ireland international is also being tracked by Liverpool and Chelsea.

It all gets Messi as Manchester United are Outclassed

Barcelona delivered a masterclass to inflict another Champions League final defeat on Manchester United as Lionel Messi inspired an emphatic victory at Wembley.Manchester United's hopes of emulating their first European Cup final success here against Benfica in 1968 foundered as Barcelona deservedly repeated their win against Sir Alex Ferguson's side in Rome two years ago.The pattern of an entertaining game bore an uncanny resemblance to events in the Stadio Olimpico in 2009 as United started with optimism and intent before being swamped by Barcelona's brilliance.Pedro gave Barcelona the lead from one of the many wonderful passes played by Xavi - but Wayne Rooney lifted the gloom during a torrid spell for United with a fine equaliser following a swift exchange with Ryan Giggs.

Barcelona responded by cranking up what Ferguson labelled their passing "carousel" after the break, with man-of-the match Messi at the centre of events as he tortured United.

Messi's magical feet were decorated by luminous green boots but it was his talent that illuminated Wembley and United's night was effectively over once he restored Barcelona's lead with a powerful drive early in the second half.

David Villa's spectacular third emphasised the gulf in class between the sides and United never threatened to mount the sort of dramatic recovery that has become their trademark.

Ferguson and his players were disconsolate at the final whistle as the nightmare of Rome was revisited but there was no shame in their defeat by one of the finest club sides the game has seen.

There was to be no fulfilling of the destiny United hoped was theirs and no dream conclusion to goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar's glittering career as he was powerless to prevent Barcelona's constant wave of beautifully crafted moves.

And as veteran Paul Scholes, who made a brief appearance as substitute, walked up to collect his losers' medal, thoughts turned to whether this was also his final bow as he considers his future at Old Trafford.

United had hoped to add a fourth victory in Europe's elite club tournament to a record 19th domestic title - instead they received a brutal lesson in the standards they must achieve from the Barcelona benchmark.

Ferguson insisted he had learned the lessons of defeat in Rome but the same problems swiftly resurfaced as Barcelona stamped their authority on midfield and Messi roamed free to inflict damage, adding another Champions League final goal to the one that sealed victory against United in their previous meeting.

Spurs land former Barca starlet

Harry Redknapp has already pulled off the transfer coup of the summer, sources have told ESPNsoccernet, by snatching Barcelona youngster Cristian Ceballos from under the noses of Chelsea.Ceballos, 16, was hailed as Barcelona's new superstar four years ago when he became an internet sensation, featuring in a video juggling a ball with Ronaldinho. However, after a falling out, Barca agreed to release Ceballos, an attacking midfielder, on a free transfer and he was taken to Chelsea for a two week trial.Ceballos trained at Cobham predominately with Chelsea's youth side, but also trained with Carlo Ancelotti's first-team. In a shock move, he has now reportedly signed a three-year contract at White Hart Lane.Sources close to the player said: "The boy captained Barca's Under-17's and here we have a proper player, potentially one of the greats if he develops as people think he might."He went to Chelsea for two weeks and trained for three days with the first-team before a Champions League game such was the impression he made, but for some strange reason no one seemed to make a decision about him."Now, he has signed a three-year contract with Spurs and Harry Redknapp has a player who will be in his first-team within a year."

Champions League Draw

Chelsea and Manchester United have been drawn to face each other in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, while Tottenham will play Real Madrid.
Barcelona meet Shakhtar Donetsk, with reigning champions Inter Milan drawn against Schalke.
Chelsea or United will go on to face either Inter or Schalke, while the winners of the other two last eight ties will meet in the other semi-final.
The quarter-final ties will be played on 5/6 and 12/13 April.
Chelsea have yet to win the Champions League and will have revenge on their minds after losing the 2008 Champions League final to United on penalties in Moscow.
The first leg between the Premier League rivals will take place at Stamford Bridge with United, who have won Europe's top competition three times, at home for the second leg.
Their tie means at least one English team is guaranteed a place in the semi-finals of the Champions League and the chance to make it to the final at Wembley on 28 May.
Whoever does win will play the first leg of their semi-final against inter or Schalke away with the return at home.
Spurs knocked out AC Milan in the last round and will travel to the Bernabeu for the first leg of their tie against Real Madrid before hosting the nine-time winners at White Hart Lane in the second leg.
Tottenham, who reached the European Cup semi-finals in 1962 when they lost to Benfica, will be out to stop Real manager Jose Mourinho's attempts to become the first man to win the Champions League with three different clubs.
Mourinho led Porto to glory in the competition in 2004 and guided Inter to victory last season before making the switch from the San Siro to Spain.
He has ended a run of Real Madrid failing to make it through to the last eight since 2004, with their last win in the Champions League coming in 2002.
Mourinho said: "I'm happy not because it is easy but because I love to play in England."
Spurs and Real Madrid met in the quarter-finals of the 1984/85 Uefa Cup when the Spanish side won 1-0 at White Hart Lane before a goalless draw at the Bernabeu helped them advance before they went on to win the trophy that season.
The tie between them promises goals as Tottenham, managed by Harry Redknapp, and Real have scored the most goals of the remaining teams with 19 apiece, although the Spanish outfit have let in only three while Spurs have conceded 11.
If Spurs do progress they have been drawn to be at home for the first leg of a potential semi-final against favourites Barcelona or last eight debutants Shakhtar and away for the second leg.
Real and United are the only unbeaten teams left in this season's competition while Inter have lost three games, which is the most of any of the clubs contesting the quarter-finals.

Barcelona 3 - 1 Arsenal (agg 4 - 3)

Ten-man Arsenal succumbed to Barcelona as they were again knocked out of the Champions League by the Catalan outfit.A Cesc Fabregas mistake allowed Lionel Messi to chip a ball over keeper Manuel Almunia and slot in for Barca.Arsenal levelled through a Sergio Busquets own goal before the visitors had Robin van Persie harshly sent off.Barcelona took full advantage as a brilliant move led to Xavi slotting in before Laurent Koscielny's foul on Pedro let Messi score from the spot.
Arsene Wenger's side had their Champions League dreams shattered at the Camp Nou last season when a Messi-inspired Barcelona came from a goal down to win their quarter-final 4-1 and 6-3 on aggregate.
The Gunners' return this time around with a 2-1 lead from the first leg of their last 16 tie was a test of whether they had progressed and developed enough to show the steel and substance to beat the Spaniards.Ultimately, they fell short again and, although the north London outfit will have cause for complaint with the dismissal of Van Persie for a second yellow card, they were given another footballing lesson by the home side.
Arsenal failed to muster a shot on goal as they spent most of the game trying to stop the Barca tide.
Van Persie and Fabregas had missed the defeat at the Camp Nou last season and, although they started this time around, the result was the same as the pair played pivotal roles in Arsenal's downfall.
The Gunners had been forced to swap their artistry for attrition as Pep Guardiola's team quickly set the tone of the game by dominating possession while passing and probing for an opening.Barcelona's work rate in winning the ball back helped keep up their relentless pressure as Arsenal, who had to replace goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny with Almunia early on, could not produce the crisp and controlled passing required to provide some relief.
The brief saving grace for the Gunners was that they were defending with discipline and determination, which was initially limiting their opponents to fleeting chances.
Overlapping Barcelona left-back Adriano hit the outside of the bar with an acute-angled shot before a weaving Messi run ended in him shooting straight at Almunia.
However, as half-time beckoned when Fabregas, who had described the Camp Nou as "mythical" in the build-up, attempted a back-heel to Jack Wilshere 30 yards out only to give the ball away to Iniesta.
The Barcelona midfielder accepted the gift and dinked a ball through to Messi, who brilliantly lofted it over the onrushing Almunia before smacking in a shot.
It was a body blow for the Gunners and, despite being given a route back into the game when a Samir Nasri corner was headed into his own net by Busquets after the break, the visitors quickly suffered another setback.
Van Persie, who had been booked for an earlier foul on Dani Alves, was dismissed for a second booking after attempting a shot at goal just after the whistle had been blown.
It did not take the Catalan club long to make their numerical advantage count as Iniesta produced a wriggling run before finding Villa and his first time pass released Xavi, who slotted in.
Koscielny felled Pedro to concede a spot-kick, which Messi expertly converted, as Arsenal were on the brink of capitulation.
It was only the heroics of Almunia which kept the score down as he denied Ibrahim Afellay and Messi, while Daniel Alves missed a gilt-edged chance.
Arsenal substitute Nicklas Bendtner could have punished the La Liga outfit by getting a goal which would have seen his side win on away goals.
But, when found by a late Wilshere cross, like his team, the striker did not have the quality needed as his control let him down.

Barcelona in bitter feud with Arsenal over Jon Miquel Toral Harper

Arsenal are at the centre of the fresh storm over claims they have snatched another Barcelona wonderkid. The Gunners are believed to be attempting to lure 16-year old Jon Miquel Toral Harper to the Emirates - a move that would mirror their controversial signing of Cesc Fabregas.
Arsenal have made their move as Spanish clubs are unable to tie players to professional contracts until they are 17
Midfielder Toral has an English mother and is understood to be keen on a move to London, that could cost Arsenal just £300,000.The battle of the highly-rated Spaniard peaked last week when Barca president Sandro Rosell confronted Gunners chief executive Ivan Gazidis over the deal.
Toral, whose agent is Per Guardiola - the brother of Barca boss Pep, is the latest in a long line of talented kids to emerge from Barcelona's famed academy.
Rosell is keen to avoid a repeat of the Fabregas deal which angered him during his spell as vice-president in 2003.Back then, Barca argued with former Arsenal vice-chairman David Dein over their move before securing a first-refusal option on Fabregas.
Arsene Wenger was desperate to sign Fabregas but was prohibited from watching him play for Barcelona's youth team. But the Frenchman got around the problem by heading to Finland for the Under 17 World Cup in 2003, where Fabregas won the Golden Boot and player of the tournament gongs.Arsenal signed their future captain in September that year, paying just £700,000 in compensation after Barcelona complained to FIFA.
Toral, a goalscoring midfielder in the mould of Frank Lampard, could now find himself at the centre of another controversy.
