Match Report Tottenham 3 QPR 1
Two goals from Gareth Bale and one from Rafael van der Vaart helped Tottenham Hotspur secure a 3-1 victory at home to QPR.
Spurs boss Harry Redknapp recalled the fit-again Ledley King to the heart of the home defence, while Armand Traore started at left-back for Rangers in place of Clint Hill.
The home side started brightly and after Rafael van der Vaart and Emmanuel Adebayor had wasted chances, Spurs hit the front with 20 minutes on the clock.
A fluent Tottenham attack ended with the ball being played out to the arriving Gareth Bale on the left and he lashed a left-foot shot past the stranded Paddy Kenny from 15 yards.
Just past the half-hour mark it was 2-0 as King attempted a shot from distance which fell to the unmarked van der Vaart in the area and he despatched a left-foot shot into the corner of the net.
Luka Modric then swerved a left-foot volley just wide of the far post as Spurs ended the half in total charge.
Rangers made a double change at the interval and just past the hour mark one of the substitutes, Jay Bothroyd, halved the deficit as he headed home after Heidar Helguson headed a corner back across the goal.
Ten minutes later Spurs restored their two-goal cushion as Bale and Aaron Lennon played a one-two and the Welshman curled a fine left-footer past the despairing dive of Kenny.
Adebayor should have added a fourth, while the R's had two efforts cleared off the line deep into stoppage time at the end of the game.

Match Report Swansea 3 Bolton 1
Swansea maintained their unbeaten Premier League home record as three second-half goals saw off 10-man Bolton 3-1 at the Liberty Stadium.
The game turned decisively in Swansea's favour early in the second half as Bolton's Ricardo Gardner was sent off after collecting a second booking and Joe Allen scored from the resulting free-kick.
Scott Sinclair got the second as he converted his third spot-kick of the season in the 57th minute after Darren Pratley, formerly of Swansea, had fouled Angel Rangel in the area before Graham put through his own net to give Bolton hope, but the same player redeemed himself with the third in injury time.

Match Report Wigan 0 Fulham 2
Wigan suffered their eighth successive defeat to slump to the bottom of the Premier League table as goals from Clint Dempsey and Moussa Dembele earned Fulham a precious three points at the DW Stadium.
The Latics had more than enough chances to win the game but just could not find the net, with Gary Caldwell heading over in the first half and Victor Moses and Maynor Figueroa both hitting the woodwork in the second.
Fulham were much more clinical, Dempsey finishing off a break in the 41st minute to put them ahead before Dembele clinched a first away victory of the season four minutes from time.
It was the visitors who started the brighter, with Andrew Johnson and Dembele looking dangerous, while the visitors were forced into an early change, bringing on James McArthur after Mohamed Diame came off worst in a challenge with Steve Sidwell.
Having repelled the Fulham attacks, Wigan slowly began to exert some pressure of their own, with David Jones seeing a shot saved by Mark Schwarzer before guiding another effort past the post.
Approaching the half-hour mark, the home side really should have gone ahead.
First, full-back Figueroa rampaged through the Fulham defence before setting up Albert Crusat for a cross that was only cleared as far as Ben Watson, whose volley was expertly tipped over the bar by Schwarzer.
From the resulting corner, captain Caldwell was left unmarked eight yards out but could only head over.
After an uninspiring beginning, the game had opened up, and Johnson might have done better than shoot weakly at Ali Al Habsi when he found himself in space on the right of the area.
There was a heart-in-mouth moment for Schwarzer when he fumbled Moses’ low cross-shot but, with Rodallega waiting, the ball bounced just past the post.
Wigan had paid for a failure to turn their dominance into goals at Newcastle last week, and so it proved again in the 41st minute when Dempsey put Fulham ahead.
Danny Murphy launched a quick break by finding Bobby Zamora out on the left and his low cross was perfect for Dempsey, whose shot bounced into the net despite the best efforts of Al Habsi.
Still Wigan could have been level at half-time as Moses got a foot to Watson’s shot but, with Schwarzer struggling, the ball flew just the wrong side of the post.
Wigan began the second half fuelled by a sense that they deserved better. But still the clear-cut chance would not come and at the other end Figueroa had to be alert to deny Johnson after Zamora broke away down the left.
The Latics’ luck was certainly out in the 54th minute when Moses let fly from 25 yards with a stunning volley that had Schwarzer well beaten but bounced off the angle of post and bar. Rodallega was first to the rebound but was flagged offside.
Fulham were struggling to get out of their own half but they remained a threat on the break and in the 62nd minute Zamora got on the end of a long ball and smashed a volley off the top of the bar.
More and more there was a sense that, again, this was just not going to be Wigan’s day. Fulham appeared to have ridden out the storm and threatened themselves when Zdenek Grygera played in Johnson down the right, but the angle was tight and he shot wide.
At the other end, Rodallega was given a chance from 25 yards out after Dickson Etuhu fouled substitute Di Santo but his effort was straight at Schwarzer.
The goalkeeper needed the help of his woodwork again in the 84th minute when Figueroa drove forward and struck a swerving shot that Schwarzer thought was going well wide but in fact bounced off the post.
And Wigan’s fate was sealed two minutes later as the defence backed off and allowed Dembele the freedom to run to the edge of the area and place his shot wide of Al Habsi.

Match Report Chelsea 3-5 Arsenal
In-form striker Robin van Persie scored a hat-trick as Arsenal edged Chelsea in a stunning derby.
Chelsea's Frank Lampard opened the scoring with a stooping header but Van Persie levelled into an empty net.
John Terry re-established Chelsea's lead from 16 yards before Andre Santos equalised from the egde of the box.
Gunners' Theo Walcott scored after a run and Chelsea's Juan Mata fired home a stunner before Van Persie tapped into an empty net then smashed home another.
Van Persie's last two goals came in the last five minutes, with the first of those two coming when Terry slipped from Florent Malouda's poor back-pass, leaving the Dutchman in miles of space to sidestep Petr Cech and slot home.
And then the striker was played in by Mikel Arteta in injury-time and Cech could not keep his shot out.
Match Report: Everton 0 Manchester United 1
Manchester United continued the re-building process after last week's derby with a disciplined victory over Everton at Goodison Park.
Having got back to winning ways against Aldershot in midweek, the Reds netted a much-needed three Premier League points thanks to Javier Hernadez's goal.
The Mexican pounced after 19 minutes, converting Patrice Evra's cross. United were in control for the most part although Leighton Baines did hit the cross bar with a free-kick late in the first half.A point would have been just reward for the effort's of David Moyes' side, but having failed to earn that they can take a lot of heart from a spirited display against an opponent with a clear point to prove following a week of largely negative headlines.
For United, victory was all-important, with performance second, following their home humbling at the hands of their fierce rivals last weekend. They achieved the former, with only brief but impressive flashes of the latter, interspersed with understandable nervousness.
Much debate was been held this week over what United manager Sir Alex Ferguson's reaction would be to last Sunday's defeat as regards team selection.
This included dropping defender Rio Ferdinand and winger Nani, retaining Jonny Evans, despite his red card against City, and restoring Nemanja Vidic and Tom Cleverley to what was an attacking line-up, featuring Hernandez, Danny Welbeck and Wayne Rooney.

Top European Clubs Set for Hazard Auction
Liverpool are on red alert after Lille suggested star winger Eden Hazard could be sold to spark a £40m auction next summer.
The 20-year-old has caught the attention of club managers across Europe and Kenny Dalglish is one of a number who would be ready to make an offer were he to become available.
The likes of Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal, Inter Milan, Barcelona and Real Madrid have also been linked with moves for Hazard and he is expected to spark a transfer scramble next summer after Lille coach Rudi Garcia admitted the French champions are already planning for life without him.
Garcia said: "We're thinking about it, of course. But it is still a little early at the moment. It would be very hard to replace a player of Eden's calibre. We'll see what we can do, but for the moment we are making the most of his presence here."
Lille chairman Michel Seydoux is also readying himself for what is shaping up to be a busy summer for the club in 2012.
"If he and we are in agreement with him leaving, I don't know what his price will be at the end of the season," he said.
"What is certain is that we will have the means to recruit after he has gone."

Parma ace on Chelsea radar
Chelsea's interest in Parma forward Sebastien Giovinco has been confirmed by his agent, who claims the Blues are keen on the Italian.
Chelsea spent much of the summer trying to persuade Tottenham star Luka Modric to make the switch across London, only to have two bids rejected by Spurs.
While Andre Villas-Boas was able to bring in Juan Mata the Portuguese coach is reportedly still on the look out for someone to pull the strings in the middle of the park.
Parma's Giovinco could fit the bill and is thought to have caught his eye with his performances for Parma in Serie A, his agent Andrea D'Amico revealing both Villas-Boas and Blues owner Roman Abramovich have taken an interest in the 23-year-old.
He said: "It's no mystery that Roman Abramovich likes Giovinco,"
"The Chelsea owner was struck by Giovinco's performances when he played against them for Juventus (during the 2008-09 Champions League campaign)."
"Also, Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas loves the player's technical qualities, and this means he is someone who understands football."
"Chelsea would be a nice club for Giovinco to join, but at the moment there is nothing concrete,"
"It all depends on Parma. They will decide. Plus, we would have to wait for an offer."

Spurs Linked To New Keeper
Bulgarian international keeper Nikolay Mihaylov is being linked with a move to Tottenham when the transfer window opens in January.
The 23-year-old is catching the eye with his displays for FC Twente in the Dutch League and Harry Redknapp is thought to be one of a number of interested parties.
Spurs are expecting Brazilian Heurelho Gomes to leave the club in the New Year because he is not challenging for a regular starting berth so Redknapp will need to add cover from Brad Friedel and Mihaylov could be the man.
Redknapp insisted last week that Gomes has a future at the club after he played in the Europa League: "He still has a big future here. He wants to play obviously and at the moment he is disappointed that Brad has come in and he is in the team, but Gomes is top class when he is on his game."

Barry Bannan suspended by Aston Villa
Aston Villa have confirmed they have suspended Barry Bannan while carrying out an inquiry after the midfielder was involved in a motorway car crash on Sunday.
The Scottish international will not be considered for selection for Saturday's Barclays Premier League clash at Sunderland. Bannan was arrested by police on suspicion on drink driving - along with Shrewsbury striker James Collins, a former Villa player - and subsequently bailed.
Villa boss Alex McLeish, in a media statement, said: "Barry Bannan has been suspended while the club carries out internal enquiries into allegations which arose last weekend. He will not be available for this weekend's game at Sunderland."
The accident occurred on the M1 at around 5.30am on Sunday, near junction 26.
Villa confirmed on Monday that they had launched the investigation and have now opted to suspend Bannan.
The 21-year-old is regarded as one of Villa's brightest prospects and has made an encouraging start to the current campaign.
He has already won nine caps for his country.
Collins joined Shrewsbury from Villa during the 2011 January transfer window.
Police had already confirmed that two men had been bailed after being arrested in connection with the accident involving a Range Rover on the southbound carriageway.
Liverpool and Spurs Chase German International
Liverpool and Spurs remain keen on Werder Bremen star Marko Marin as other top European clubs line up to make a January move for him.
The playmaker has impressed in the Bundesliga this season and is seen as a versatile asset as he can feature all across the midfield for the German club.
The 22-year-old is also a German international and has reportedly been on the radar of both Spurs and Liverpool for some time.
The latest suggestions are that the Premier League duo are set to do battle for his signature in January - with Werder wanting at least £10million for him - but several other Premier League clubs are also interested.
Arsenal and Chelsea have watched him in action while big-spending Manchester City are likely to be keen too should it become clear he will be allowed to move on in the new year.
As well as interest from England, the big guns in Spain - Barcelona and Real Madrid - are also said to be monitoring Marin so a transfer scramble could be on the cards come January.
Touts Sold Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United tickets
Manchester United tickets assigned to Sir Alex Ferguson fell into the hands of touts. The Manchester United boss – who is not suspected of any wrong-doing – was named at the court case of four men convicted over a huge illegal operation outside Old
Trafford.
A total of 16 tickets printed with Sir Alex’s name were uncovered after a covert police operation into illegal activities on match days close to the Theatre of Dreams. It is understood Manchester United launched a top secret internal investigation after police told them of their findings. Sir Alex was interviewed by club bosses as part of the probe. He said he had given the tickets to acquaintances and had no knowledge of the illegal operation. The club confirmed the tickets were legitimate and had originally been allocated to Sir Alex.
Officials at United are given tickets which they can give to whoever they choose. A United source said that while most of the tickets were used by the manager other staff at Carrington had access to them.
The revelations emerged at Trafford magistrates court yesterday as the touts were slapped with fines and banning orders.
Karl Rowe, 51, Mark Rowe, 47, Anthony Jones, 44, and Christopher Fallon 51, pleaded guilty to selling or otherwise distributing tickets without authorisation.
The four men were arrested in a sting operation codenamed Pickup which saw undercover officers visit four United home games last season.
They found the men were part of a gang who worked from a hotel near the ground and advertised tickets for sale on the internet.
Many of their customers came from abroad with one travelling from as far as Japan and handing over £200 to see one match.
Money changed hands via the site with the hotel used as a drop off and collection point. It is understood the tickets bearing Sir Alex's name were produced as part of the men's case that they had authority from the club to distribute tickets.
Balotelli "Why Always Me?"
Goalkeeper Joe Hart admits life can be frustrating with Mario Balotelli but is convinced the striker now has his head "screwed on".
Balotelli's remarkable propensity to create headlines on and off the pitch continued over the weekend after a domestic firework incident was followed by a devastating two-goal display in a 6-1 thrashing of Manchester United.
The fire service were called to Balotelli's Cheshire home in the early hours of Saturday morning after a firework set off from inside the bathroom started a blaze. The Italian was forced to decamp to a hotel but the incident barely seemed to have ruffled him as he revealed a T-shirt saying 'Why Always Me?' after his first goal in Sunday's rout at Old Trafford.
The 21-year-old rarely seems far from controversy despite earning praise for greater on-field maturity of late but, after six goals in five games, Hart is growing to love him.
Hart told City TV: "I think we were all a bit unsure last season, outside and inside, what he was about. I think he has grown as a person and accepted who and what he is in this team. He is someone we look to. All the hype that comes with Mario is standard procedure. That is the beauty of football, that is what he is.
"You get these characters and sometimes it is frustrating to be with him, but not so much this season. His head is really screwed on and we are all 100% behind him. I think everyone is delighted he is getting the right kind of love he deserves."
Manchester City Star Set For PSG Exit?
Manchester City defender Kolo Toure has admitted he would be interested in a move to big-spending Paris Saint-Germain.
Toure recently returned from a six-month doping ban but, despite starting in the 2-0 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League earlier in October, he has found his route to the first team blocked by in-form centre-back pairing Joleon Lescott and Vincent Kompany.
The 30-year-old could be involved again when City face Wolves in the Carling Cup on Wednesday, but the ex-Arsenal defender, who has never played in France before, has admitted the Paris project interests him.
"I would be interested because of my current situation at City," he told RMC Sport.
"If Paris call me, it wouldn't be like in previous years when I would say: 'Paris? I'm not so sure.'
"Now, if they call me, I will listen to what they have to say. Looking at all the very good players Paris have, that really makes me want to go there, that's clear."
Toure says the progress made Qatar Sports Investments pumped their cash into the capital club has made PSG an attractive proposition - and not just because of the money.
"I know I'm not the only player interested," he explained.
"There are other players who really want to play for PSG. Not just for the money, but also because we see there are very good investors who want the club to progress, to produce beautiful football and win trophies."
Eriksson Sacked By Leicester
Sven Goran Eriksson was last night sacked from his £1m-a-year job at Leicester – just hours after telling his squad he was amazed to still be in charge.
Sven Goran Eriksson paid the price for Leicester’s dismal start to the season with the boot and former manager Martin O’Neill has already emerged as the leading contender to replace him.
The ex-England coach had called an emergency meeting with his entire Leicester squad yesterday morning and claimed he would have sacked the manager if he was the owner after their dismal 3-0 home defeat to Millwall.
But Eriksson, 63, was given the grim news late yesterday afternoon by the club’s Thai owners and is set for another golden handshake – this time for around £1m with 12 months remaining on his current deal.
Eriksson will walk out with another payout but his reputation tarnished after failing to fulfil the vast expectations of chairman Aiyawatt Raksriaksorn.
Leicester coughed up a stunning £12m this summer in an attempt to build a squad capable of reaching the Premier League but Eriksson only managed five wins from 13 Championship games.
Eriksson took steps to ease the tension by calling his players into a clear-the-air meeting yesterday.
In the meeting he admitted he was surprised to still be in charge and then asked all the squad to write down what they thought was going wrong, after making them sit through a video nasty of Saturday’s shocking performance against Millwall.
But hours later he was dismissed from his post, with assistant Derek Fazackerley also leaving the club.
The club last night released a statement confirming the dismissals saying: “Leicester City Football Club has confirmed today that, by mutual agreement, Sven Goran Eriksson has ceased to be the first team manager, with immediate effect.

Match Report:Liverpool 1 Norwich 1
Liverpool paid the price for a stack of missed chances as they were held to a 1-1 draw by newly-promoted Norwich City at Anfield.
Craig Bellamy fired the Reds in front just before the break but they failed to build on that breakthrough in the second half.
Substitute Grant Holt headed Norwich level and it could have got even worse for Kenny Dalglish's side.
A late flourish almost led to a winner for Liverpool but the ruthless streak the manager had demanded was absent.
The Reds will rue the fact they struck the woodwork on three occasions and found former Everton keeper John Ruddy in inspirational form. However, two points were carelessly spurned and Liverpool now find themselves four points adrift of fourth placed Newcastle.
It was a hugely frustrating night for Luis Suarez who couldn't capitalise on a host of opportunities and was on the receiving end of some dismal decisions by referee Peter Walton.
Dalglish made two changes to the side which drew 1-1 with Manchester United.
With Lucas Leiva suspended, Bellamy made his first league start since his return to Anfield from Manchester City this summer.
There was also a first start of the season for Glen Johnson who replaced Martin Kelly at right-back after recovering from a hamstring injury.Liverpool flew out of the blocks but failed to make their early dominance count.
Inside two minutes Martin Skrtel rose to meet Charlie Adam's corner and his header rattled the bar.
Suarez then produced a sensational turn in the box but with only Ruddy to beat he blazed wide.
In the 11th minute Bellamy raced down the left and picked out Suarez, whose volley was brilliantly turned on to the post by Ruddy. The rebound fell kindly for Downing but he failed to hit the target.
Suarez wasted another opportunity soon after as he dragged his shot wide after latching on to Johnson's clever pass.
Norwich survived that early onslaught and grew in confidence as the first half wore on.
Wes Hoolahan got in behind the Reds' rearguard but fired too close to Pepe Reina who gathered at the second attempt.
The Liverpool keeper was called into action again soon after to keep out Steve Morison's header.
Frustration levels were growing inside Anfield when the Reds broke the deadlock in first-half stoppage time.
Norwich failed to deal with Jose Enrique's long ball forward and Bellamy pounced. The Welshman burst into the box and his shot took a deflection off Marc Tierney before nestling in the corner.
It was Bellamy's first league goal for Liverpool at Anfield since the game against Watford in December 2006.
Liverpool were inches away from doubling their account six minutes after the interval.
Suarez glided past Leon Barnett but his shot struck defender Russell Martin and rebounded back off the post.
Norwich boss Paul Lambert brought on striker Holt in a bid to find an equaliser and the substitute made an instant impact on the hour.
Anthony Pilkington whipped in a quality cross from the right and Holt rose to power a header past Reina.
The Canaries were energised by that strike and could easily have led six minutes later. Holt nodded goalwards but Reina pulled off a fine reaction stop to push the ball away.
Dalglish responded by taking off Bellamy and bringing on Jordan Henderson, while Andy Carroll came on for Downing soon after.
Suarez continued to pose a threat but he couldn't find a way past the impressive Ruddy who turned a low drive behind.
With 10 minutes to go Suarez went down under a challenge from Tierney when he was clean through on goal but to the home fans' disgust Walton waved play on.
The Reds continued to press and came agonisingly close to winning the game in stoppage time.
Carroll soared to meet Gerrard's cross six yards out but the big frontman inexplicably headed wide. Then in the 95th minute Gerrard turned provider for Suarez whose sweetly struck volley was brilliantly kept out by Ruddy.

Inkoom reveals Liverpool talks
Ghanaian right-back Samuel Inkoom claims he is on the verge of completing a move to Liverpool from Ukraine outfit Dnipro.
He claims his agent has been locked in talks with the Merseysiders and expects an official announcement to be made in the not-too-distance future.
Inkoom would become the first Ghanaian to represent the Reds if he were to sign although there has been no official comment at this stage from the Anfield club.
The former FC Basel defender has good experience on the international scene as well, having represented his country at the last World Cup and the African Nations Cup in Angola.
He said: "Very soon a deal would be complete. My agent is still in talks with them. A scout of Liverpool came over some time back and that was how it started. A deal will soon be done.
''I cannot say what it will be exactly because nothing has been decided yet on whether I will join Liverpool on loan or move permanently.
"Liverpool is big, one of the biggest names in football. So if everything goes well and God allows it, everyone will know where I am going. I hope it would be Liverpool."
Barca,AC Milanand Spurs Chase Brazilian Wonderkid
Barcelona have joined AC Milan and Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign Internacional starlet Oscar after the Brazilian wonderkid was dubbed the new Kaka.
The Blaugrana are reported to have had scouts monitor the progress of the 20-year-old playmaker after he rose to prominence with a hat-trick in the final of the 2011 FIFA Under-20 World Cup in the summer.
Milan have been linked with the player, whose full name is Oscar dos Santos Emboaba Junior, for several weeks but have yet to make official contact, according to Sport.
Internacional have seen scouts from several major European clubs attend their games due to the interest in striker Leandro Damiao and reports soon filtered back about Oscar.
Tottenham Hotspur have a partnership agreement with the Porto Algre-based outfit and could have first refusal on the youngster if they want to make their interest concrete.
Oscar joined Internacional from Sao Paulo in 2010 and has made only 22 appearances for the first team after playing only as handful of times before making the move.
After helping his club win the Copa Libertadores in 2010, the midfielder won the Campeonato Gaucho and Recopa Sudamerica this year.
Last month Oscar made his first two appearances for Brazil's first team when he played in the Superclasico de las Americas double header against Argentin

Match Report: Marseille 0-1 Arsenal
An injury-time goal by substitute Aaron Ramsey gave Arsenal a 1-0 win at Marseille on Wednesday that enabled Arsene Wenger's side to leapfrog their opponents to top spot in Champions League Group F.
The Welsh midfielder applied a cool finish in the dying seconds of a forgettable game that had betrayed the fragility and lack of confidence that have plagued both sides' starts to the season.
Marseille had not conceded a goal in the competition prior to Ramsey's intervention, but they now find themselves a point behind Arsenal prior to the return fixture at the Emirates on November 1.
The chances of seeing both sides in the last 16 were further enhanced by Borussia Dortmund's unexpected 3-1 defeat at Olympiakos, however, which leaves the German champions bottom at the group's halfway point.
Renovation work has reduced Stade Velodrome's capacity to 42,000 but OM's early-season struggles meant there were only around 30,000 fans present to see a match in which a sense of occasion was conspicuously lacking.
Marseille sported their orange third kit, with Arsenal in uncharacteristic blue, and referee Damir Skomina added a liberal splash of yellow with early bookings for Arsenal pair Alex Song and Andre Santos and OM's Andre Ayew.
Ayew's name was taken for protesting over Skomina's failure to award a penalty for a handball by Carl Jenkinson, and television replays suggested the hosts could count themselves unfortunate.
Marseille had started strongly but their goal was the first to be threatened, with Souleymane Diawara obliged to clear a looping header from Robin van Persie off the line.
For all their endeavour, OM were toiling in attack, but Loic Remy provided a flash of brilliance on the half hour, jinking inside Per Mertesacker and Jenkinson from the byline before his shot was blocked by the latter.
Moments later it was Lucho Gonzalez's turn to draw gasps from the Arsenal fans, as he stole in front of Mertesacker to toe Mathieu Valbuena's cross across goal and wide.
Lucho and Ayew sparked an unseemly scramble in the Arsenal box minutes shy of the hour, before a defensive error by Nicolas N'Koulou almost gifted the visitors the opening goal at the other end.
The Cameroon centre-back allowed the ball to run beneath his foot, giving Walcott a clear sight of goal, albeit from a narrow angle, but OM captain Mandanda saved with his feet.
Mandanda then denied van Persie, but Marseille looked to be safe until Ramsey was gifted acres of space on the left-hand side of the OM area and calmly placed the winner inside Mandanda's right-hand post.
Match Report: Chelsea 5-0 Genk
Fernando Torres scored twice as Chelsea hammered Genk to equal their biggest Champions League win.
Raul Meireles set the hosts on their way with a long-range effort before Torres took Frank Lampard's ball to notch the second with a cool finish.
Torres's angled header gave Chelsea their third before Branislav Ivanovic headed home Florent Malouda's free-kick to put the Blues 4-0 up at half-time.
Substitute Salomon Kalou's second-half tap in completed the rout.
Liverpool Target In New Contract Negotiations
Liverpool target Gaston Ramirez is negotiating a new contract with Bologna that would discourage him from forcing a January move to Liverpool. Football Italia reports the Italian club will offer Ramirez a new deal that would potentially quadruple his salary.
Agents for the highly-rated Uruguayan winger have flown to Italy to negotiate the deal. His current contract runs until 2015, but both parties would be willing to scrap it in favor of the new one.
The new contract will reportedly contain a release clause of around £12 million. The player will be allowed to negotiate with any club that meets that fee.
The 20-year-old has attracted attention from Liverpool and other top clubs because of his standout performances in Serie A. He moved to Bologna in August 2010 for £4.84 million and went straight into the first team.
Bolton plot Championship raid
{EAV_BLOG_VER:41ea496353569ef4}Bolton have again been linked with a swoop for Leeds midfielder Jonny Howson, but will face competition from Blackburn.
The Wanderers made a move for the 23-year-old in the summer but were knocked back by the Elland Road outfit.
However, Howson's contract ends at the end of the current campaign and Leeds may be forced to cash in on the midfielder in the January transfer window.
Blackburn Rovers have also been credited with an interest and Bolton boss Owen Coyle could face a battle for Howson's signature.
Coyle will be keen to bolster his options in midfield in January regardless of whether or not he can capture Howson, due to the fact key men Stuart Holden and Lee Chung-Yong are both ruled out with long-term injuries.

SC Otelul Galati 0 - 2 Man Utd
Wayne Rooney scored two penalties as Manchester United defeated Otelul Galati although Nemanja Vidic was sent off on his return from injury.
After a low-key first half, Rooney's cross was handled by Sergiu Costin and the striker scored after 64 minutes.
United went down to 10 men two minutes later as Vidic was harshly shown red for a foul on Gabriel Giurgiu.
Otelul's Milan Perendija received a second yellow late on before Rooney struck after Antal fouled him.
Man City 2 - 1 Villarreal
Sergio Aguero's winner in the dying seconds rescued Manchester City as Villarreal threatened to inflict a serious setback on their Champions League ambitions at the Etihad Stadium.
Roberto Mancini's side looked set for more frustration after Villarreal belied their poor La Liga form to leave City on the brink of a third game without victory in the group stage.
Cani had set the tone for an uncomfortable evening when he gave Villarreal the lead after only four minutes and City's only response was an own goal from Carlos Marchena just before the interval.
But deep into stoppage time, and with what turned out to be almost the final kick of the game, substitute Aguero arrived at the far post to turn Pablo Zabaleta's cross past Diego Lopez to give City their first Champions League victory and revive their hopes of reaching the knockout phase.

Match Report: Newcastle 2-2 Tottenham
Shola Ameobi scored an 86th minute equaliser to give Newcastle a 2-2 draw with Spurs in an end-to-end encounter at St James’ Park.
The 30-year-old striker has been pushed out of Alan Pardew’s starting eleven by the partnership of Leon Best and Demba Ba but he was on hand late on to ensure the spoils were shared on Tyneside.
Rafael Van Der Vaart opened the scoring for Tottenham four minutes before half-time when he converted a spot-kick won by Emmanuel Adebayor.
But Newcastle were level just three minutes after half-time when Demba Ba was able to bundle home Jonas Guiterrez’s cross, although Brad Friedel could have done better to keep the effort out.
Jermain Defoe looked like he had given Harry Redknapp’s men all three points after 68 minutes when he gather Scott Parker’s pass and rifled a left-footed strike past Tim Krul.
But it was Ameobi who had the last word when he was able smash the ball into the back of the net after some sloppy play from the Spurs backline.
Thanks to that late strike Newcastle remain fourth and are still unbeaten this season while Tottenham stay sixth with a game in hand.
Match Report: West Bromwich Albion 2-0 Wolverhampton Wanderers
Peter Odemwingie was on the scoresheet as West Brom moved out of the relegation zone with a derby win over Wolves.
Mick McCarthy's side made a positive start to the game with Adam Hammill coming close early on. He forced a decent save out of Ben Foster inside two minutes before Kevin Doyle saw a penalty appeal turned down by referee Chris Foy.
But moments later they were made to pay. A lapse in concentration at the back allowed Premier League debutant Billy Jones to reach the byline and his cut back was side-footed into the roof of the net by Chris Brunt.
The goal came against the run of play and Wolves almost found an immediate equaliser when Nenad Milijas' shot was blocked off the line but, for all of their possession, Wolves created little more in front of goal.
The Baggies looked dangerous on the break and almost had their second before half-time but for an incredible last ditch challenge from Stephen Ward to deny Shane Long in a goalscoring position.
Roger Johnson could have been given his marching orders after the restart when he brought down Long as the last man but the referee thought the skipper got enough of the ball. Hammill then came close again for Wolves as his shot was again saved by Foster.
The hosts always looked the most likely to get the all-important second goal and Brunt was denied his second of the game by Wayne Hennessey on the hour mark. Jonas Olsson saw his shouts for a penalty turned down when he was wrestled by Christophe Berra in the build-up to a Baggies corner.
Johnson should have equalised for Wolves when he steered a free header wide from six-yards and it was clear it was not going to be their day when substitute Odemwingie doubled the scoreline on the 76th minute. Paul Scharner set up the opportunity with a neat back-heel and the Nigerian clinically finished from 18-yards.
It is Roy Hodgson's first win over Wolves at the sixth attempt and moves the Baggies up to 11th in the table. Wolves meanwhile are in free fall after sinking to their fifth successive defeat and hover above the drop zone.
Match Report:Arsenal 2-1 Sunderland
Robin van Persie's double secured a vital Arsenal win against a Sunderland side who were unlucky to leave the Emirates with nothing.
It looked ominous for the visitors when the Gunners opened the scoring within the first minute of the game. Gervinho squared the ball to van Persie, who shot low into the bottom corner and Arsenal had the dream start they'd hoped for.
It was all Arsenal for much of the first half hour, van Persie the best player on the pitch by some way.
The Dutchman turned Kieran Richardson on the edge of the area and chipped the ball over Simon Mignolet but it bounced off the post and away.
A left-foot effort from the captain went just wide a couple of minutes later while Gervinho should have done better after breaking into the box but he blazed over.
Sunderland were hanging on but were back in the game just after the half-hour mark. Mikel Arteta's needless handball resulted in a free-kick which Seb Larsson stepped up to take and the former Arsenal player curled an unstoppable effort into the top right corner.
Lee Cattermole should have put the Black Cats ahead a few minutes later but his header from point-blank range produced a wonderful save from Wojciech Szczesny, and Jack Colback had a great opportunity just before the break but volleyed just over the bar from 12 yards out.
The second half saw six bookings, three for each side, as both teams battled for a vital win. Arsenal wasted numerous free-kicks as the game became scrappy but substitute Andrey Arshavin provided one moment of brilliance, toe poking the ball wide after leaving the Sunderland defence standing.
The breakthrough came with eight minutes to go as Wes Brown felled van Persie on the edge of the box. The Dutchman stepped up to take the free-kick and curled a fabulous strike into the top corner.
Sunderland did not lie down and thought they'd levelled straight away but substitute Ji Dong-Won was denied by the offside flag.
Arsenal held on through a nervy five minutes of injury time to claim a precious win that takes them up to 10th in the table while Sunderland are just one place off the bottom three.

Gabriel Agbonlahor Linked With Spurs Move
Harry Redknapp is reportedly keeping an eye on Aston Villa striker Gabriel Agbonlahor with a view to a possible move in January.
The Spurs boss has been linked with one striker after another and the Villa man is just the latest in a long line of players who have been linked to the club.
The 25-year-old has still got four years left on his current contract at Villa park and they are unlikely to be in a rush to allow an England international move on unless the offer is too big to turn down.
Reports suggest Villa would be prepared to do business at around £20m, that is unlikely to be forthcoming from Spurs.

Arsenal star in line for shock Euro 2012 international call-up
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s impressive start to his Arsenal career looks set to earn him a senior England call-up at the age of just 18.
The midfielder, who signed for the Gunners from Southampton in August, scored a brilliant hat-trick for England Under-21s against Iceland last week.
And having also become the youngest English player ever to score in the Champions League last month against Olympiakos, England boss Fabio Capello is ready to call up the young Gunner for the clash with world and European champions Spain on November 12.
Under-21s manager Stuart Pearce admitted after Oxlade-Chamberlain’s hat-trick had destroyed Iceland: “He is a real great talent.
“For anyone scoring a hat-trick on international duty it is obviously very pleasing. He gave us a real cutting edge, and is also a good team member and is really level-headed,” said Pearce whose Under-21 side top their European Championship qualifying group after also winning 2-1 in Norway on Monday night.
But it is the senior side’s Euro 2012 finals in Poland and Ukraine next summer which may now interest Oxlade-Chamberlain, with England having sealed qualification with the 2-2 draw in Montenegro on Friday.
The teenager has impressed everybody at the Emirates since his arrival, scoring on both his first full start in the Carling Cup win over Shrewsbury and within eight minutes of his Champions League debut.
Arsenal’s assistant manager Pat Rice admitted: “From Arsenal supporters’ point of view, they are going to be seeing a lot of this boy.
“Alex can go inside, he can go outside, he’s got that injection of pace and I think what he needs now is to be consistent in his play.”
Oxlade-Chamberlain himself said: “I am concentrating on the Under-21s at the moment.
“I am not with the seniors so I am focused on what I am doing with Stuart Pearce’s side right now.
“That [playing for the senior side] would be nice in the future but, as I said, I am focused on this.”
Villas-Boas: Drogba and Kalou are committed to the Chelsea cause
Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas says both Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou are committed to the Chelsea cause, despite the pair not signing new contracts.
The Ivorian duo’s deals expire at the end of the current campaign and both can discuss pre-contract agreements with other sides in January.
“Kalou has been offered a contract and we will continue to talk,” Villas-Boas said.
“In January players are available to discuss their future. The fact they are emotionally attached to the club means we count on them.
“Their compromise and success with club will never be in question.”
Drogba has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich, while Kalou has struggled to force his way into the first team, thanks in part to the impressive form of new signing Juan Mata.
“Different players react differently,” said Villas-Boas on Mata’s impressive start.
“I think the personal and social wellbeing is valuable (in adjusting to a new league). “Didier straight after joining from Marseille had a scoring spree with Chelsea. Most important is for club to support the players with this change.”
Warnock: Taarabt Free To Leave
QPR manager Neil Warnock has told Adel Taarabt and the rest of his squad that they were free to leave the club if they wanted to.
Rangers have had to deal with speculation linking clubs with moves for their star players since their promotion to the Barclays Premier League, with talisman Taarabt the main subject of such reports.
The midfielder allegedly fuelled the flames further while on international duty with Morocco, with reports emerging he told the media he wanted to leave QPR in January for financial reasons.
Warnock has taken the comments "with a pinch of salt" but admitted that Taarabt, like the rest of his squad, was free to leave the west Londoners if he so desired.
"He has not said anything to me [about wanting to leave]," Warnock said, speaking ahead of Saturday's clash with Blackburn. "I do take it with a pinch of salt when they go abroad [and reports come out]. It is only six weeks since Adel said he would never play for his country again and then he scores a goal and kisses the coach. That's Adel. You take everything with a pinch of a salt.
"My message is the same with every player at the club, not just Adel. If a player wants to leave, he can leave. I've never had a problem with that."

Arsenal After Hulk
Arsenal have been in touch with Porto about signing Hulk, the striker's agent has claimed.
But Teodoro Fonseca has warned anyone hoping to sign the powerful striker on the cheap that he will not leave Porto unless his monster £87m release clause is met.
It was reported that Arsenal were in the hunt for Hulk and were preparing a £23m January offer for the Brazil international.
And his agent Fonseca has revealed that the Gunners have shown interest in Hulk in the past but admitted the most recent link was news to him.
He also rubbished the rumours that Porto could be willing to sell their prized asset for as little as £23m. Arsenal's current transfer record is the £16m they paid for Andrey Arshavin in 2009 so it is highly unlikely that they would be willing to break the bank to meet his staggering buy-out fee.
Fonseca told Portuguese newspaper A Bola: "Every year there are more clubs interest in Hulk and I am also aware that there are clubs from outside the Premier clubs interested.
"This Arsenal rumour is news to me but it is true that there has been contact before but nothing happened.
"But I speak often with Porto and the figures have not changed. He will only be sold if someone pays the £100m so this figure of £23m that has appeared would not be considered."

Premiership Clubs Chasing USA Hotshot
A host of Premier League clubs are tracking American hot-shot Brek Shea.
The FC Dallas ace is regarded as one of the best young talents in America and is already an established member of Jurgen Klinsmann's USA side.
The likes of Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool have all been credited with an interest in the attacker who can play out wide or up front.
Liverpool and Manchester City are both believed to have watched Shea in action over the weekend as he created the only goal in the USA's 1-0 win over Honduras.
Shea's representative, Barry MacLean, admits a number of teams are interested in the attacker and that the American starlet would be interested in a move to England in the future.
"I do know people are asking me about Brek as he is the premier talent in America," MacLean told skysports.com.
"There is a real buzz around Brek as he is a real quality player.
"He has a contract with the MLS and FC Dallas for another three years so at this point it is premature to talk about a move."
Asked if Shea would be interested in a move to the Premier League, MacLean said: "It's on his radar. He is a young player with high aspirations and every player wants to play at the highest level.
"I think England would be an interesting option for Brek, but we will wait and see what happens."

Manchester United Tracking van Wolfswinkel
Manchester United assistant manager Mike Phelan has admitted the club are keeping tabs on Sporting Lisbon striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel.
United have been linked with a move for the Dutchman after catching the eye at Sporting this season.
The 22-year-old, who joined Sporting from Utrecht in the summer, has scored six goals in his last six games to alert clubs from all across Europe.
A host of clubs were credited with an interest in Van Wolfswinkel prior to his move to Sporting and United No.2 Phelan has revealed they are long-term admirers of the Dutch international.
"We have obviously known Van Wolfswinkel for a long time," Phelan told Portuguese newspaper Record. "He is a young striker, very talented, who has been growing in the last few seasons.
"A club like Manchester United carefully follow many players all over the world."
Chelsea Line Up Alex Replacement
Chelsea are ready to offer £15million to Atletico Madrid for defender Diego Godin after failing to sign him last year.Blues boss Andre Villas-Boas is thought to have been impressed with the Uruguayan international after watching him play in the Copa America and is ready to reignite Chelsea's interest.Last January Atletico reported that Chelsea had made a £50million bid to sign Godin and Sergio Aguero, an offer which was eventually rejected by the Spanish giants.
At the time Godin said he would be interested in playing at Stamford Bridge and may now get his wish after reports on a Spanish radio station indicated Chelsea were back in for the defender.
The Blues are thought to be looking for someone to replace Alex in the squad as they get ready to offload the Brazilian defender to Juventus in January.

Liverpool Wait on Mexican Striker
Liverpool will wait until Mexican teenage striker Marco Bueno turns 18 next year before stepping up their bid to sign him.The Reds entered the race to sign one of the stars of this summer's World Under-17 championships in July and brought the Pachuca player over for a ten-day trial in August.
But Bueno returned without penning a contract and made his first-team debut for the Mexican top flight club over the weekend. However, newspaper reports in central America claim Liverpool plan to sign Bueno when he comes of age on March 31 next year.Andres Fassi, sports vice president of Pachuca, said: "We received a letter last week from Liverpool, who want the player to go there when he turns 18."Maybe Liverpool will then make an offer, but that would not be until he is 18 years old, when FIFA's laws allow."
Big Spending Russian's Target Anelka
Big spending Anzhi Makhachkala are now targeting Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka, having already shown an interest in Frank Lampard.Player-coach Roberto Carlos claims the club's Russian billionaire Suleyman Kerimov is determined to bring in more household names despite making Samuel Eto's the highest-paid player in the world football this summer.Eto's is being paid in excess of £250,000-a-week to play his football for Anzhi but Kerimov's spending hasn't finished yet as he looks to turn them into a team to be reckoned with on the European stage.England coach Fabio Capello is being eyed to manage the team once while Steven Gerrard and Robin van Persie are other top Premier League stars being considered.Carlos, a former Brazilian international, has revealed that the club's interest in Anelka is for real although he is just one of a dozen on their radar.
He told TV show Canal Football Club: "Anelka is not the only player. Nene from PSG and Van Persie from Arsenal are players we are following."Neymar? I talked to him. If Real, Barca or Man United cannot pay the transfer fee, we will pay it. Suleyman Kerimov can offer what he wants."

Bolton Miss Out On Chilean Defender
Bolton Wanderers have missed out on Chilean right-back Stefano Magnasco after he agreed a new contract with Universidad Catolica. The Trotters had been keen on offering a deal to Magnasco after inviting him over to England to train with them for a fortnight, during which time he impressed manager Owen Coyle.Coyle even included him in a specially arranged closed door friendly but Wanderers baulked at making his stay permanent after being put off by Catolica's valuation of the talented youngster. The 18-year-old has now put pen to paper on a four-year contract to play in the Copa Libertadores instead.
Tottenham Eyeing Swoop For Blackburn Forward
Blackburn Rovers could be set to lose star forward Junior Hoilett in the new year with Tottenham reportedly lining up a cut price bid.Hoilett is in the last year of his existing contract and Rovers have yet to thrash out a new agreement to extend his stay at Ewood Park.Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is therefore looking to take advantage of the situation by putting in an offer for the talented 21-year-old for less than Blackburn's £15m valuation when the transfer window reopens in January.Newcastle are also tracking the Canadian, who can play on both wings, and if neither club is able to reach an agreement on a fee, Hoilett could still move on in the summer with a tribute ruling on a compensation package with Blackburn are entitled to due to his age.
Rovers have already held extensive talks with Hoilett and his representatives over a new deal, but the club's desire to insert a fixed transfer fee has proven a major sticking point to date.
Cleverley SIgns New Manchester United Deal
Tom Cleverley has signed a new four-year contract with Manchester United, the Old Trafford club have confirmed. The deal, which will keep the midfielder at United until 2015, was announced on Monday morning, much to the delight of Sir Alex Ferguson."Tom is one of the brightest prospects in the English game," manager Ferguson told the club's official website. It is a reward for an outstanding start to the season for Cleverley, who would almost certainly have won his first England cap against Holland in August had the game not been called off.One of the substitutes who transformed the Community Shield clash with Manchester City, Cleverley then started four successive Premier League games, including the impressive home victories over Tottenham and Arsenal, before suffering ligament damage to his foot at Bolton last month. Since then, the 22-year-old has been sidelined, although Ferguson is hoping to have the Basingstoke-born player back for Saturday's trip to Liverpool."For a young boy, he has a good footballing brain which, when coupled with his energy and ability, makes for a player with a fine future ahead of him," added Ferguson. "It's the United way to encourage our young players to make their mark in the first team and Tom has grabbed that chance with both hands."

Manchester City Linked with Ibrahimovic
Manchester City have been linked to AC Milan's Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Real Madrid schoolboy Jose Angel Pozo today.Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport claims City are ready to join the race for Ibrahimovic in the wake of the Carlos Tevez saga, but face competition for the Swede's signature from Real Madrid and Anzhi Makhachkala. While Tevez is mentioned as a potential makeweight in any deal, they also throw in the name of ex-Inter striker Mario Balotelli for good measure.
It is also reported that City are among an elite Premier League trio ready to lure talented 15-year-old Spaniard Jose Angel Pozo from within the Real Madrid youth ranks.City, Chelsea and Arsenal are understood to be willing to offer just under £750,000 for the rights to the player - a small price if Pozo turns out to be a player like Cesc Fabregas, who left Barcelona as a schoolboy and rejoined them years later for over £30million.

Lukaku Plays Waiting Game
Romelu Lukaku says he is content to play the waiting game at Chelsea as he looks to get more first team opportunities.
The 18-year-old is one of the most highly rated young strikers in Europe after impressing for Anderlecht and the Belgian national side, causing a huge number of clubs to take an interest in the summer.
Chelsea eventually beat off competition from the likes of Real Madrid and Inter Milan but Andre Villas-Boas has yet to really release him on the Premier League.
With Didier Drogba, Fernando Torres, Daniel Sturridge, Nicolas Anelka and Salomon Kaolu all vying for a spot Lukaku has plenty of competition.
But the Belguim international says he is happy to play the waiting game and just hopes his hard work in training will see him given his chance one day.
"I work hard at Chelsea," said Lukaku
"You have to sometimes set the bar a little higher.
"Every young player wants to player, but it is important to be patient.
"The coach is pleased with me. It is already important to me to be in the 18 every week."
